  • Plans or kits for DSH

An aquaintance who is a Tohatsu dealer is thinking about retiring and is interested in building his own DSH to power with a Tohatsu.
Who should I point him to?

        DSH plans

I have built a Sorenson and a MRC (not D) from plans, never tried a Hemp. I can tell you that MRC plans are really beautiful, well detailed and easy to follow for someone with a bit of experience.

Yes they are very nice. Have plans for a DMH never built it as driver changed his mind as no DMH here in Region 11.

            info......

FYI.......the "typical" DSH plans for a 44 Merc are not "ideal" for a Tohatsu..........

What would you change from a set of plans for a Merc to be better suited for a Tohatsu?

                Visual Observations...

This may be vague, however I have noticed that hydros sporting a Tohatsu are wider between the air traps (by how much, I'm not sure) and the sponsons may also be wider as well.

                  From what I know

it seems that they are going to a little wider boat, and I have been told it's because the Tohatsu is a heavier motor.

For a Tohatsu DSH vs. Merc DSH, a boat design does not need to be changed. I have a starter on my Merc and along with the 37lbs battery in the back of my boat, my Merc is much heavier that a Tohatsu.

With that being said, yes, the boats running Tohatsus in our region are different than traditional DSH designs, but I contribute that to a natural progression of boat technology.

                    But what do I know?!

I do know; however, that I'll be racing against Daren and Dave this weekend, and nothing brings out a competitive spirit like a record course!

Additionally, even though I own plenty of Mercs (3), parts, etc. I think these Tohatsu are the best thing that has happened to DSH since the Merc Challenge series days even when they become (or have become) faster than the Mercs.

Mike 41P, and with your friend being a Tohatsu dealer, he'll be able to get the reeds in bulk!!
