  • 700 hydro question??

    Have been looking into Sport C boats but just saw a video on 700 hydro boats. Where can i find info on the 700 hydro racing? Where do you get boats? new or used? What motors are used? What will it cost to get into 700 racing? If your a 700 hydro racer, i would appreciate any info you would share. Thanks, Tom

    700

    700 HYDRO also Top Hydro or 1100 hydro
    This class has several engines that can be used Konny about $5,000.00 new
    Rossi about $11,000.00 new Vrp also about $11,000.00 new. Maybe Units in this price ???
    Boats new more difficult--Gary Pugh,Fantasy,Mark Johnson and Lowell Schumacker Probably over $10,000.00. Air system and rigging could cost several thousand. Props $100.00 per blade on average.
    If you get serious I would help you acquire this equipment I have some used and some new stuff. My Phone # are on APBA site under Pro Commissioner or PM me Good Luck

      There are some used equipment out there, you can get a used rig reasonable but may need some TLC and may not be a winner but will get you on the water and the excitement of a 700 Hydro. Use this site to find help and equipment. .....Bob

        Tom,
        Sport C and 700/1100 hydro are very different! I suggest, if possible, you attend a race where 500/700/1100 hydros are being ran. This is typically with the USTS. I believe the capsule boat I ran last year is for sale and at a reasonable cost. I can give you the info of the owner if you are serious. Zach Malhiot

          You are probably looking at a 70mph difference between a 700 capsule and a Sport C....

            Comparison of Top Hydro (700cc) vs Sport C

            Hi Tom;
            My son, Sean McKean, has run most racing classes, including Sport C and 700cc Hydro (also Top Hydro or 1100cc Hydro; i.e. you can run two classes with one engine). Both are APBA Racing Classes, but very, very different. A fair analogy might be in driving, to campare driving a Ferrari to a Chevy Cobalt, or in flying, comparing flying a F-18 Fighter Jet to a Cessna 150.
            I think a good Sport C runs about 60mph. A good 700cc runs 105 to 120mph in competition; my son holds the 700cc World Speed Record at 130mph.
            A new VRP or Rossi Powerhead Assy is $11,000 plus frt. Konny engines are a little cheaper. Used engines can be as little as 1/2 price. I have Sean's 700cc VRP that holds the World Speed Record, and won Nat'l Championships in "Top Hydro' for sale for $6,995.
            E-Mail me at "captainjimmckean@yahoo.com" and I'll send pictures and data.

              700 Hydro

              Depending on where you live, it would be good if you came out and watched a USTS race with the best 500 and 700 hydros. Go to the USTS web site to find where the next races will be and try to attend one. Ask questions of any of the drivers and you will find them very helpful.
