  • Florida boat races today and tomorrow?

A neighbor of mine just came and asked me if I heard about the boat races, somewhere in central Florida today.
He said there was a fatality and today's races were cancelled.
Does anyone have any info about this?

Yes sad but it happened. It was NOT a boat race, but a vintage event where the old boats are supposed to run around the course at controlled speeds. It happened in a Jersey Skiff and those guys are usually out of control. There was 8 boats and 7 of them were running in a group and a boat hooked and out they went. The vintage skiffs don't use belts or cages.

This was a CRA sanctioned event in Tavares, FL. Driver and rider were tossed after the skiff winged out. Driver was struck and did not make it.

Sad news, I'm sure there will be a discussion at the driver's meeting this morning. They are planning to continue the event today. Everything was handled very well and the incident was kept very low key.

He died doing what the person loved.

Bullcrap! A person is DEAD, the family is deeply hurt. So sorry for their lost!

It's time to quit racing these unsafe junks! It's time to start thinking about your fellow racer, drive heads ups!

Mark was a good friend of over 40 years, RIP & God Bless. Personally I'd rather not see the details of what went wrong dragged out here. He was a good guy- born with the wild side so many of us have that it takes to race. Mike
