  • Lap timing equipment?

Our club is in need of new timing equipment and was wondering what you guys use? Would some kind of track timing work or does your club have something special made. I think the easier the better, ya know user friendly!

We are having a meeting and banquet this Saturday and it would be nice to have some info.(most everybody there reads here so it won't be new info but something to talk about)

    Thanks Kevin

Kevin, I think Speedway motors sells a small unit for circle track lap timing, a small trigger in the car(boat) and one on land, google it

I don't think we will do any kind of trigger timing, more like something on a laptop using the space bar to stop each boat that finishes. I think our old one was like that, but it is so old that newer computers won't run it. I was talking about a track meet, like in field and track.
A trigger would be great, just don't know how that would work on water with everything moving around on a bouy or a pole.
      Thanks for the input though.

        Kevin:

Contact Bev Krier at "Scorer" by PM on HR. She has purchased several over the years for USTS that look like a small adding machine or calculator. The have a paper tape that will print out up to about 8-10 places I think. Believe she got it from Radio Shack but she can tell you for sure.

Region 4 had a handheld gizmo that kept track of laps & times, but I think that is all done on a laptop computer now. Abby? Aimie? Janet? Maybe one of our learned scorers will check i9n with with the info.

Mia created scoring software years ago for excel, used to be on the apba site under recouces. Check there.

I do not know you are looking for but this may help. Most scorers in APBA use the Seiko S149 stopwatch/printer. pricy at $469 from MF Athletic mfathletic.com The APBA Scorers Handbook lists it as preferred Works on 2 AA batteries. Take care of it and will last a long time. we have had ours for over 15 years. They do have a great repair service. Paper rolls are $10 for 5ea. We have 2 ea and use one for backup at Championship events. Might try E-Bay. The Timer gives the Scorer the paper times of the heat then the Scorer staples it to the lap sheets that gets sent to APBA.

For record courses we use as an added timing clocks of 2 ea Accusplit Eagles 602m100. About $30.00 ea. Looks like that Model has been replaced with a later model. Look at the Catalog as there many to choose from. Too many.

In the good old days I can remember the Timer using stop watches ganged together on a board with a long Bar and springs that would start all the stop clocks at the same time. Then left the bar away and then could have control of each clock. Anyone remember those GOOD OLD DAYS!!!
                  Hope this helps you.

There is another way but wow is it expensive. I don not remember the Company. But are based out of the Bay area of Calif. They have sending units in each boat that a mother receiver the judges stand. Works great. BIG BUCKS.
                    around $10.000.

                      That's the one

I remembered after Bill Boyes post that is the one (Seiko) that USTS used when Eileen worked the judges stand and did the timing. Best to check with Bev Krier though and see if she has something better now as that was 5 or more years ago.

Thanks for all the input. I checked out APBA site and my computer did not have office/excel to run it. I have a friend in the computer biz that I talked to Tuesday night. I got a email today saying he had something for me to try. I think it will work and is very simple to use. He has been downloading office/excel on my computer so I can use what he made(in excel). It took about 2 hours to get excel downloaded but I think I am in business now. I am going back to ABPA's site and see if I can figure that one out also.

We use an app on Rick's I phone for the mcAlester race, it worked great, anyone can work it. We handed it to a few people to use and got all the times...I do like the paper timer because you have a hard copy. All require a person who is in charge of the timing, because it is job you have to be alert. The I phone does the same thing as the computer.
