I just got my new Bass gear foot and it looks like a winner for E mod.. Also sent out the new 302 foot and our C mod and D mod foot to be reworked by Tom..They all turned out perfect..Hopefully we gain a couple MPH's and no more broken shear pins Yay!!!!! Now I just need to put paint on the two..Primer is all done..

that new bass case looks sweet. i see the machined comp nose but who did the other one? looks like a lee copy. can't help but just admire tom's work. he did one for me a few years back. maybe tom can buff up the new bass case next winter? that's gotta be good for another 10mph easy huh?Bill Dingman "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

Units look nice. No doubt Both Sid Bass and Tom Cronk do great work.
Personally, I have never been a fan of polishing lower units. But that is a topic that can be argued until the end of time. Kind of like some people believe in waxing the bottom of boats and others don't. To each their own I guess.Sattler Racing R-15

OMC FE/SE powerhead parts for sale. Kurcz ported block, Mod 50 pistons and cylinder head, exhaust, etc.

I sent a 302 unit to Cronk for shaping/polishing. The proper shaping of the unit is the reason I sent it out. The polishing is icing on the cake.

Polishing a Gear Case
Cleaning and polishing the gear case may add a little "pride in ownership" to your setup and it also can help a racer to see hairline cracks that may form in the aluminum casing over time. Also, if it detaches from the tower while under way, it may be easier to see under water when a diver tries to retrieve it from a muddy bottom (especially in murky water conditions.)
I don't believe, like Mike, that polishing has much to do with added speed capability. The smoothness, hydrodynamics flow shape, and symmetry(sp?) of the re-contoured foot's outside surface (within legal limits) does have a lot to do with speed and turning characteristics. Someone asked me one time at a race if I objected to a fellow racer polishing his gear case and I told them "...no, I do not see it as cheating or making a big difference." After all, if one can 'profile' a stock foot in APBA and still run in a "stock" class, who cares about a little Mother's metal polish applied to a non-stock contoured foot?

The SORC has approved this gearfoot which will be installed on all new production RAM50 'D' Stock Racing Engine packages. The RAM50 is also legal in 850ccMod.
The 2012 RAM50, formerly the Bass Machines Tohatsu, is now being produced by Richmond Aero Marine, Richmond Maine. All Bass Machines components are available as well as Tohatsu parts.
