Chuck Kalb sounds good. "V" boats letter...., seems my mom made a jacket or two for Paul Kalb after the 1966 Marathon Nationals in Needles.

            Not Hinton

Pits too smooth, mountains not close enough.

Do not think it is Hinton

I seem to remember from the last time I was there, 1969 the year of the flood, that the shoreline was so smooth. Look at the picture attached.

Definitely Hinton, you can tell by the high mountains just behind the pit road

                  Hinton

John I know the picture I posted was Hinton because that is what is printed on the back. I was there at the nationals in 1969 when the hurricane came through and the dam was closed which raised the water nearly 70 feet. Everyone had to leave the pits and move up into the state park where the Ox roast was held.

V7 is Burt Hoefs. Looks like a younger Rick Miller (he's still young). I think Chuck wore glasses back then. Looks like Rainbow City to me too. But if it is Hinton, would not be Rick. He was a baby then. V7 has always been Burt though.

                      Pre Gentex

This looks to be before the Gentex life jacket was required to be used. Also the engine is a Hot Rod so that will help define the time.

AOF had many many races at Rainbow City over the years. So beautiful. From what I am told, NOA used the site for stomping grounds also. I was thinking that might have been a pic of an AOF race there since Burt ran so much AOF. Of course he ran all organizations, and lived in most midwest states as the Exec of Gates Rubber. Always kept the 7V number no matter where he lived. Don't you love those STP stickers on all the boats? Do we still use STP? They must have sponsored the race. Connie Payn

Thank you Bethann. Those look like the glasses that I remember Chuck always wearing. Probably be him then, and Hinton. Oh, wish we were all that young again!!
