Ok, the paperwork you signed to do security was your insurance waiver...better?

All my other points still stand.

Here's a hint on the situation-

From the Safety Meeting this morning:
1 - a new minor release will need to be filled out at each race event for every minor (racers and non racers). No more yearly release.
2 - Barrier/ caution tape is no longer accepted to out line the pits. Pit or snow fencing must be used along with posted signs stating the restricted area requires a signed waiver and wrist band. Also wrist bands can only be on the wrist (no more hats or shirts or whatever).

        That is all for now.
The Commissions are in session right now.
Update on this - the restricted area is the area where boats are entering and exiting the water. So, not the whole pits w/ trailers (which was on the table at one point).

If this is correct, then the racers/race officials did this to themselves by not controlling the people allowed to be in the hot pits without the proper release and wrist band. In my opinion race official or not, each and every racer/team member should help the officials police this issue at any event.
          Unfortunately it's bigger than that-

Chris Cutshall, a firefighter who lives in Madison and who was injured in a crash during the Madison Regatta on July 3, has filed a lawsuit in federal court seeking damages from the accident

EXACTLY! This event and the events that led to the deaths of several members are WHY we lost our insurnace and the new requirements for our new insurance need to be followed to the TEE! This is not something that we need to waiver on, but be proactive about! It's also something that is not a negotiation. Snow fencing is a small minor change, along with actually making EVERYONE coming into the hot pits have SIGNED the waiver.

It's funny most folks on here b****ing are not here in Chicago (sorry i couldn't help my self).

Kyle, please excuse my ignorance on the subject but the term Hot Pits is not one for which I can find a clear definition. If one exists and is honored by the insurance folks, I think we ought to publicise it. "Spread the word". Thanks. Jack

                Jack,
"Hot Pits" is my term (well it might be theirs as well but who knows). The "official" rule has not been published yet, so I am not sure what the term will be called. I was trying to explain the intent as it was explained to me. In simple terms - the area where boats enter the water, are started and return to after the heat is over. At some races, this is a lot of beach or grass and at places like Lock Haven, it is a boat ramp (and the other area across from turn 1).

                Hope this helps.

I was hoping for a more serious answer than that. Maybe there isn't one. Maybe K&K is laughing every time we they give us an increase

No, they are cringing when they see things they are likely to have to make a payout for ... the other guys just aren't looking.

Sort of like the insurance inspector that comes around to your workplace and reminds everyone they are supposed to have on hardhats when working under a crane or working under scaffolding with work being done above them.

After the 50th time, they are fed up with being ignored and certain you are not cooperating with reducing payouts.

I believe that AOF uses Essex and NBRA uses K & K

When I was hurt at a race, my insurance was the primary and K&K was the sec. Insurance which was used for covering some copays. As far as hardhats, my employer tells me to put on safety vest and hardhat, I do. If they want races policed better, I suggest we do that.

                                how about......

everyone just calm down until all the details are worked out and officially communicated by APBA. I was at the annual meeting and at that time the APBA was still working out the details with ASIS. Please let's stop the rumors and piling on.
