....I hope we can expect some major dialogue prior to any motor rule changes.I see no reason for changes now. The 49ci omc and its parts are available by the truckload. Motorheads who know what they are doing can get the 44ci merc to run just as well. ( I watched George Luce get beat to the line by a merc in FER at Whitney Point)The 2cyl omc of similar size has potential.
Anyone who needs a 49ci triple powerhead to join our ranks just needs to contact me. I get em,usually for nothing, from local marinas. So what is this rule change talk really all about ?

Not that I have a stake in this class, but I don't see a need for rule changes. Is what I do see needs to happen is clarification on the existing rules. What I'm getting at is, some inspectors interpret the rules differently. Mainly the modified front case. I have nothing against Tim Kurcz for building the modified front case so please don't take it that way. Problem is some inspectors consider it illegal, why some consider it legal. There needs to be NO GRAY area on this topic. So which is it? If memory serves me right, I believe this modified front case motor set a record last year and is in the books. But depending on the inspector it's considered to be illegal. So who's right?
I know the mod commission tried to squash this modified front case a few years ago at the national meeting, but it didn't pass. So does that mean that it is fact legal? Or is it such a gray area that even the mod commission doesn't understand it? No matter which way it is, all of the MOD inspectors need to be on the same page, and the MOD racers need to be notified of their decision.

from what ive bin contacted on was commisioners are goin to try and ban the modified front cases,,,,,, that some have built,,,,, i made one and it did ok ,,, i know another few built some,,, but they are not there best engine,,,,i run my stock front cases figure if they good enough for 104mph,,,,, just dont want to see our class with more rules,,, we are the unlimited of mods,,, and would like to see it stay that way,,, that and not to styfle peoples handywork on mod motors,,,
Neil will there be a price increase? There is interest on the thread I started for this on BRF
You need to discuss costs with Sid @ 360-373-3839. Keep in mind that better bearings cost more for the materials, not to speak of added labor. If Sid gives you a deal, run with it.
You can still buy the old bearing system that has been very successful for most applications if properly maintained. Sid developed the newer system thinking it is a mater of time before the 56 cu OMC will become available for FE/SE, and to better serve our current FE/SE clients.
Thanks,
Neil Bass
If anything, the rules should be opened up to recharge the creative engine building spirit. Make it bore & stroke, gas & oil only and watch the class grow. This is the premier mod outboard class after all....... And like Cheney points out, his Kilo record was set without a trick front end.
while I think you build some of the best motors I have ever seen and your knowledge is first rate, if you open up the rules, all you will do is put the guys with TONS of money and expert machining skills to the front..........the class will NOT grow, it will die......................the custom front half needs to be made illegal..............then, lets see the class start to revive itself...........
bore and stroke is for PRO......................
PS: I have an FEH awaiting.........
You must have missed the part about Cheney setting kilo with a fairly stock 49.9...... Also, how was it in 2009 that Jimmy Robb won high points with a budget short rod motor?
