  • Place to practice in ft. lauderdale area?

Anyone know of a place to run a CSH in the ft. lauderdale area for practice & set up
    Thanks

When I raced with Dave Rawson from Ft Liquordale, we used to test in the 84 canal. Don't know if there is a place to get to it anymore, but it used to draw quite a crowd back then.

Yeah but I'm looking for something I can run laps on, the canals are too narrow.

Bill is in Melbourne a good ways north. You might want to get a hold of Carl Staron. He might have an idea.

I use to live in Hollywood Florida for a tad and we would hold Friday night dingy races on the ICW between the Sheridan and Dania Beach Bridges. There use to be a ramp for some jet ski rentals right under the Dania Beach bridge, and that is not a no wake zone. Have to watch other boat traffic, but if you time it right, you should be ok.
Of course this was like 15 years ago, so things may have changed.

When it comes to boat racing and the wife, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is permission, and of course I spent a number of nights sleeping on the couch!

I'm thinking I can go to lake Ida west in Delray beach, the lake is about a mile long. I called the park and they said there were no restrictions for boats on the lake, anyone been there?

Nice lake.............finding a good spot for pitting might be an issue. Pretty populated. ALSO...........ICW does NOT bode well for an engine made from recycled beer cans. Salt water does bad things. Walt Blankenstein use to get really PO'd when I talked about going to a salt water race with my Konig. And back in the day, Quincy flatheads had a bit of a blue tinge to them. Hap Mulvany told me they had a melting pot behind the shop and melted down Busch beer can to make their own castings. Back then, I believed him (I was 14). I know better now. They used imported beer cans.......Lone Star, I think.

Yeah, I haven't run any of my boats in salt, just hate to deal with the mess.

Mike, I live in West Palm Beach. Lake Ida is just big enough, but a lot of traffic as its connected to all the canals and Lake Osborne. They might tell you there are no restrictions, but be careful they will give tickets over 25 MPH within 100 feet of shore and they WILL ask for your boat regisration and Fl. decals also a lot of weeds and hidrilla in Ida. We use Port Mayaca north of the locks you can run a CSH wide-open at the South end by the ramp, but it is a wide canal. If you can run fast there you can run any course in the U.S.
No other real good lakes in S. Florida without JAIL time involved!!

                        S. Florida is bad, we have lakes everywhere but you can't fish, swim or boat in any of them!

                              Mike,
I am making a trip ovedr to Lake Apthorpe on Dec 17/18 for a testing weekend. So far it looks like we will have 1 new driver trying a 20/C rig for the first time and possibly a 10 & 12 year old taking their first rides as well.

I think Tom Nuccio & Dave Hoffman will be coming over so we should have a decent bunch there all to test.

Carl even threatened to break out the Hot dog's.......

We should be there by 11am Sat.
