        Fuel by Metallica

It has the best lyrics for racing:

Gimme Fuel, gimme fire, gimme that which I desire
        Turn on...I see red
Adrenaline crash & crash my head
        Nitro Junkie, paint me dead
        And I see red

One hundred plus through black and white
        War horse, warhead
        ****'em, white knuckles tight
        Through black and white

        Ohhh, I burn
        Fuel is pumping engines
        Burning hard, loose & clean

        And I burn
        Churning in my direction
        Quench my thirst with gasoline
        etc...

Take the corner, join the crash
headlights, headlines another junkie lives too fast
        etc...

Also like Sandman like Virginia Tech uses at their games, though it doesn't fit boat racing much.

              Yep. That's probably about right.

And just for the record, I meant no disrespect toward Sammy. The Red Rocker is great in his own right; a very talented performer. I wish I could play guitar and sing a fraction as well as him. I just never found him to be a good replacement for Diamond Dave. Nobody could replace DLR. When Dave left (got tossed out), I lost interest in Van Halen (Van Hagar). Kind of like when Coke changed their formula. It was till good; just not great, IMHO.

For example, I am also a huge Dweezil Zappa fan (a bigger fan of Frank though). Dweezil Zappa can play Eruption just like Eddie - note for note- but he could never fill those shoes. Dweezil plays a lot like his Dad too, but he ain't Frank.

That's all I was saying. I really wasn't trying to be a jerk.

I like "We're not gonna take it" by Twisted Sister to set the mood for some serious driving.

But also would go along with David Weaver's suggestion about "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash, not that it is about racing but reminds me of races when I first started when the Ring of Fire and Boat named Sue were around with Marshall grant as owner and Billy Seebold driving.

Ring of Fire, but use the Social Distortion version. If that doesn't get you amped up, I'm not sure what would.

I hear ya, no worries Michael,

nothing wrong with a little internet fun. Sorry if I came across as too serious.

The point I was trying to make was that we all probably have a favorite song that we play in our heads when we dream/daydream about outboard racing, and how cool it would be in a video or played over the PA system at a race just be fore a heat or before the days racing.

All the suggestions in this thread have been very good. My thinking is that if the idea is to excite the spectator or to draw attention to the sport, it needs to be done in a tasteful manor for the entire demographic, ie- young to the old without having someone think the music is to loud and heavy or with lyrics that might offend someone...

The song that Jeff suggested is a good choice when you think about it in those terms.
It's very dramatic, has a positive up beat to it.
It's not to heavy, and contains nothing offensive in its message.

Take a moment and play the song, close your eyes and visualize your favorite boat racing movie or video clip in your mind, or picture yourself getting ready for that big heat.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aTYp8-O96M

I think you will see it's a nice fit.

Ok, Stepping off the soap box now.

                      Jeff Akers,

You hit it exactly on the head. That is just what I am trying to come up with. Thank you everyone for your suggestions. This has been really fun. Keep it going. The best fits I have come up with so far are:

                      Van Halen - Right Now
Van Halen - Running with the Devil
Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA
                      Foreigner - Urgent
                      Kenny Logins - Danger Zone
George Thorogood - Bad to the Bone
Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water
Fast and the Furious - Push it to the Limit

These all have catchy, thumping beginnings, very upbeat, appealing to all ages, and clean. This is what I am looking for. Thank you all again.

                      Jim
