By my count, just in Washington's division of Region 10, 15-17 new boats should be heading for the first turn come this spring...should be fun!

Boat looks nice Darren...any idea what it weighs? I am done with decks on mine, attached the deck fins Sunday, now working on the front cowling. Thought I could get 3 mil to bend around the radius...but no luck. So....I need to go buy some "bender board"....unless somebody out there has some ideas as to getting wood to bend in a 17 inch radius....5 US

3mm should bend around a 17" radius easy, even bend around a 17" diam curve. If it gives you a tussle soak it for a day or so, then clamp it around the curve you want and let it dry. There's a thing called "springback" when bending wood - wet/steam/or glue lam - so you might want to trim an inch off the bending form to sort of overbend it so it will be on it after springback. I've bent wet 6mm 5 ply around a 6" radius curve that way.
3mm ply is known as "bending plywood"cause it is used to laminate cylindrical hulls or soft chine hulls in a process known as cold molding. Soft chine shape is similar to the legendary "Wolverine" runabouts of the `50s.carpetbagger

I rough cut the cowl pieces then soak just the outer side of the plywood , the outer ply will expand while the iner ply wont that starts the bend. I put each end on a suport with weights in the middle over night. I resoak the outside when I go to fit them and put them on. Even the stiff sapele wood bends right around.Destiny is a matter of chance,it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.
