  • Sit down runabout??

Thought I might get some answers on this. I was finally forced to stop racing this summer because of my knees. They suddenly got very bad to the point that I could not kneel down in my boat without extreme pain. I am going to explore the surgical option but I wanted to know if anyone has run across a sit down runabout. I remember Roland Dechert (sorry for the spelling) running one at Top O a few years ago. I was pitted next to him. Does anybody have a contact number for him so I can find out where he got his boat? I don't want to run short course...just C marathon (what I ran before) and I'd consider DSR if that class would be more stable in sit down mode (though I don't know why). I know this is a long shot and off the top of my head it seems crazy to me too, but I really would like to get back in a marathon boat. Thanks.

Go for it Bob! I have a good friend working on a sit down hydro with the same type of knee problems. Well worth the try!
I am sure Roland will chime in here soon....

Bob, I hope you're able to get something worked out. It's great to see you at the races.

      I can't find Roland's contact info.

How about a 13' Critchfield? This one's sold, but it might give you an idea what they look like.

Hi Jeff...thanks for the kind words. Do you know if the planing surface rule is complied with on the Critchfield boat? Also, is that boat fiberglass and where could I get one?

Tad Olson from Illinois had one a few years ago that he ran at Top-O. Think he might have it still.

                      Sit down MOD rig??

Looking at my age and the D mod runabout I built - after running several OPC classes in both venues I am giving serious thought to sit down. Going to try it conventional, if it feels right I might put a seat in and see what happens!!
(71 with some knees left, but no sense!!)
