  • 2012 drivers school query

I am a prospective new driver, presently considering the 20SSH or CSH classes due to my size and weight (5'8", 170-175 pounds).
I have not yet bought a boat as I have been advised to do a drivers school first.
Prior racing experience is karts, flat track cycles, play racing snowmobiles, and sportsman class sprint car, all on dirt.
Coming up on 64th birthday, good physical shape.
Question: I'm in Florida. Can someone supply details (location, cost, duration, what gear I need to bring, contact name and phone number or e-mail) of the nearest planned drivers school in 2012?
My jobs sending me to Europe from 27 Sep to about 23 Nov, so I expect that all of the 2011 schools will be over before I get back.
I still have all of my (fire-resistant) car racing stuff. I expect that the helmet would be the only piece to carry over.
Yeah, I know. From Florida, "nearest" starts at 500 miles out and continues from there! :-)
Anyway, howdy from a possible new guy on the block.
I'm just trying to get the parade started. Let's see how long it takes to find rain!

There are driver's schools for boat racing??? My first race was the second time I drove my boat. You learn by driving at the back of the pack.

Right, you learn there to drive the 'ruff stuff' so if/when you break free & go in clean water you'll be ready. LoLs
Welcome aboard, look in the buy sell section. As far as used stuff if you go budget, boats are fairly easy to find, followed by motors. The suit & jacket can be hard to find tho. Good Luck. PS At 56 I'm still 'in school' on the course & even more in the pits.

Bob and I have talked and he has been to the house to look things over. He would like to participate in the Driver's School program as well. Any plans made for next year yet??

I started racing this year for the first time. I'm 68. I stared from scratch as you are doing. PM me and I will fill you in on what I needed to get started. I know of 2 schools that are running at this time one is in Michigan and the other is in Washington state.

              Constantine, MI

It is a bit of a haul, but MHRA will be doing it's first driver school of the year at Constantine, MI on Fathers Day weekend.

              Thanks,
              Dean

                Michigan drivers school

Well, if something closer and/or earlier doesn't materialize, at least that's one option!
I'm originally from the Jackson area (Clarklake), and my wife is from around Bay City (Essexville).
We've been down south here going on 34 years now.
What large town is Constantine near?
Also, if you don't mind, please shoot me the details on what the school consists of, what gear I need to bring , cost, etc.
I'd say do a PM, but maybe someone else on the board would also like the info.

                  Hello Bob,

I grew up in Chelsea, MI, 20 miles east of Jackson.

Here is the link to our racer School: http:

                  //www.michiganhydroplane.com/NewRacers.html

Basically, it is a 4 hour program, 1 hour classroom the next three on the Racecourse. The class size is limited to no more than 10 students so that everyone gets at least three sessions on the course. The first two are individual, you are the only one on the course. The last session is "race an instructor" to get the feel of being next to someone.

The school takes place on Friday, the purpose it to have you "race ready" for Sat. and Sun. We have rigs available for you to race during the weekend. We have been doing it for four years now, and are having very positive results.

                  Check us out on Facebook

                  Thanks,
                  Dean

                    2012 drivers school

It looks like the 2012 school will be on Friday, 15 June with the race on 16-17 June.
Is the $50 fee still valid?(the website is from 2010).
What is the rental fee for a boat and motor for the two race days?
This is assuming that I haven't sunk your entire rental fleet during the school!:-)
I am further assuming that you operate the rentals on the "You broke it, you fix it" principle.
                    Bob
