I was one of the drivers that wanted the 20H, and both 25ss engines in the A-mod class to add driver counts and take advantage of old retired stock engines in peoples basements and get them out on the race course again. As a Hot-Rod guy I am very surprised that no one has worked hard on using the 25SS engines yet in A-mod. We thought those would be very competive against the Hot-Rod, but so far I have not seen any one work hard on a 25ss yet!

Personally, I think it was a good thing too. But it would be helpful if the Merc 25ss were 'in writing' as the 20H is. The Merc 25ss is not specifically mentioned anywhere in the 250cc Mod rules and does not fall under the umbrella of "stock production powerheads on a racing lower unit" because it's not a stock production powerhead. It's a racing powerhead. The 25ss powerhead isn't a Merc 200 powerhead.

Why would anyone really spend a bunch of time getting a Merc 25ss running when it is not officially approved as a legal engine? You can say that it is approved for 250cc Mod, but it's not in writing. At best it's assumed.

I recently read a bunch of archived posts here on Hydroracer from 2004, I believe. There was a lot of talk about the Merc 25ss as a 250cc Mod engine, but to date it's not in writing. That lack of clarity is not a good thing. I realize it's a long shot to think of a 25ss beating a modified A Hot Rod with expansion chambers, but let's say for the sake of this discussion that it happened, say at the divisionals or nationals. In a situation like that do you think for one second that this issue of the engine not officially (in writing) being approved would not be brought up? Protested? You bet it would. In a heartbeat.

Say what you want, but put it in writing. The 20H is in writing. Put the Merc 25ss in writing and get rid at least one of the multitude of gray areas.
