  • Marshall Grant R.I.P.

Marshall Grant, former bass player with Johnny Cash (as the Tennessee Two) and former PRO Outboard racer & owner for many years passed away Sunday at age 83. His drivers included the vaunted Billy Seebold and Dick O'Dea. He also penned a book about his life with Cash titled "I Was There When It Happened" (2006). He was also featured in the Johnny Cash film "I Walk The Line".

As a personal note, he was a good friend and racing buddy to my father Randy Johnson. I can barely remember meeting him as a small boy at the Lakeland, Fla. races that used to be held every February. I also have a couple of old pics my mother took of Marshall back then.

    To Marshall, Rest In Peace.

May he be welcomed to the land of the never ending race course. He will be missed, by many.

You forgot to mention the best driver in the history of PRO racing also drove for him...Dan Kirts. While on a hunting trip with me about 7 or 8 years back, John Dortch sat and told stories of sitting around the camp fire at boat races with Marshall, Johnny, and June. Unbelievably lucky to have heard some of these tales.
