New C-Stock Class Ideas

I think a two-blade prop drawing is a good idea (just like the old days.) It keeps the inventory of drawing props at a minimum cost, and also adds a little challenge on the setup to the racers. There should be no height restrictions (like we had back in the early 1990's), but the same C-Stock minimum weight.

For me, the primary purpose of the class is to give the non front runner, newbie, less experienced guy an opportunity to dice it out for a win. To compete as opposed to tool around in rough water. With the goal of improving skill sets and equipment that can one day battle it out with the top dogs. Having restrictions or limitations/variables i.e. random prop draws takes away from this goal. It is my responsibility to first improve my skills and equipment to win novice, then to advance to competing in CSH/20. I entered this sport with this goal in mind, and honestly feel the prop draw inhibits this growth process. I would prefer bringing my best equipment heads up against the best all other qualified "c novices" bring to the race. I'd propose bring you best stuff to novice C, if you win say 3 times, you can no longer run novice and must compete with the big boys. Just sayin!

I can't speak for Tony of course....but I think for the future at this point we are going to keep the prop draw....it is not a perfect solution, I would like to see spec props, but we can't afford it as a club. If we were to get a title sponsor, maybe thing will change....but for now we are going to keep things the way they are. I think it adds to the fun. Just my opinion. David.

You posted while I was writing my last response....there is no perfect way of doing Novice C...trust me..I have spent hours on this thing with Tony trying to figure out the best way of accomplishing what we set out to do....a class for racers that do not want to go out and compete against the best C stock/20SSH drivers in the country.....nothing we do is going to be perfect, and I am sure open to ideas to make things better. I agree, can't make everyone happy and novice C is a work in progess. I just view it as an opportunity to compete for good water and wins while building my program to compete with the big boyz. As opposed to a chronic, stagnant sub class of CSH/20ssh. I am very grateful it exists, but feel "competition" should remain the focus, and random lousy vs fast prop draws take away from this concept. Prop draws certainly may add to viewer interest, but do nothing to advance my progress to my goal of being the best I can be.

I am sorry you don't like the prop draw...at this point in time it is the best we can come up with. If you do not like it. don't run the class. You are the only person that has complained. David.

In Region 11 we had a local prop guy go through the 16 2 blade Yamato props we had for Nor Cal 400. He was able to match up 8 of them that we have found no difference in them.

As I told you in person at the race, THANK YOU for your time and efforts putting this class together, it was a key factor in me deciding to start boat racing. It was a blast and in my mind a major success! Ken

Prop draw

No big deal..we have spent a lot of time on this project, and no matter what we do somebody is not going to be happy....I would like to see spec props made, and that may happen at some point in the future. Or, we might just keep the prop draw.....I think it ads some intrigue to the whole thing. Dave

Just my 2 cents, but I think maybe you could look at the prop draw in a different light. Most of us would LOVE to be able to try out up to 4 props a weekend (without having to own them) in a class with no national points implications. What happens if you draw a prop thats a mile an hour faster than the prop you own? Ask the person who's it is if you can get the number off of it, or buy it from them. Is it such a raw deal then? Whats more, I think anyone running this class knows that you could write down each others prop numbers anyway.

Thanks for that perspective Mike, agreed the draw could provide potential benefits. In hind sight, I was a bit overwhelmed trying to sort out my own stuff which had numerous teething problems that caused me to not even finish 2 of 4 heats Sat. Figured I'd be better off with one less variable I guess. Ironically, Sun. I was surprised to be handed a prop to run in 20, felt pen markings on it indicated a very successful racers initials. Dilemma, make note of the details or not. It crossed my mind for sure, but I refrained. Grateful to have this class available to run!

The other idea behind prop draw

We had 3 different winners in the first 3 heats, THAT is what prop draws do. Ken has really fast stuff, I or someone else could loan him our best prop and he would win every heat he didn't jump. Not sure what the point in that would be. We want all the novices to have a shot at running out front, the prop draw creates that opportunity. If you just want to go fast and try to win, run CSH, but be forewarned rookie, those boys up front play hard. Run some more novice C, learn how to make starts, get a lane etc. and there is now doubt you'll be running up front in C soon enough. This weekend is going to be so fun, Novice C, A/C marathon, points chasers from afar, and Babcock racing, something for everyone!!!

Another good point, prop draws can provide an opportunity for all to run up front. Guess I just didn't understand that was the goal. Outside of Novice C, I had one good heat, all others I pretty much got whipped. Trust that I know full well I am NOT ready for prime time, and plan to run all the Novice C I can.
