  • Novice C to run at Henley Memorial

Local Class: Novice C Hydro. Points to be totaled from other Novice C races for local championship. RULES: Boats to meet all specifications of APBA C Stock Hydroplane class. Normal 3 lap 2 heat format. Eligibility: Class is open to any drivers who have not scored a win in a region 10 race in the past year, based on the honor system. Propellers: All drivers registering for the class will bring a propeller to drivers meeting. Participants assume risk of damage to propellers. Propellers will be then drawn at random. Winner and last place finisher from the first heat will swap propellers before the second heat.

This is what we came up with as a temporary way to run this until we can come up with spec props to hand out like J's. I had a hard time with the driver eligibility wording, but I am pretty sure everyone in our region knows who should and shouldn't be running this class. The part about first and last swapping props was Dave Anderson's idea, I thought it was pretty creative. For anyone that wants to run this class and for whatever reason doesn't want to risk perhaps their only prop, Sean Byrne has offered up a prop to throw in the mix, although I think the the prop draws might be the more interesting part of the class. I'm just picturing someone going "****, drew my own prop, wish I would have brought the faster one now". Good luck and have fun to all who participate, I know I'll be looking forward to it.

Just looking for a little clarification on this.. "Class is open to any drivers who have not scored a win in a region 10 race in the past year". Would that be Stock Yamato classes or all classes?. Would A-stock, D-stock, PRO and MOD drivers be eligible? Thanks 50-R

        Novice C

I think the meaning of the rule is any driver that has not scored a win in C stock or OSY in the last year....I would not have a huge problem with somebody from another class running in Novice, but I think that sort of defeats the purpose of the thing. Also..we will be running it at Moses Lake right after Labor day with the same exact rules in place.

couple of things that we do with No-Cal in Region 11. If we do not have enough drivers for the boats we will put an seasoned driver out in the water with the Novices. It is a good training aid
Also we use the brass 2 blades that used to come with the motors. Maybe Ron Hill could copy one and build some for your program.

            props

I have in my race shop 13 or 14 2 blade brass Yamato props.....we have not had a chance to test them yet on a 3/4 inch C stock setup.

We run them a lot deeper than that. I forget but it is about 1 1/2 or so. Ask Darrell.

I think the idea was that nobody had to chop the #### out of there transoms/motor mounts.

What happens if someone has a motor with the stock 16mm shaft & draws a 9/16" prop?

Most of the Yamatos in our region have had the propshafts changed out. You will need shims to fit the 9/16" propshaft

The key part is the part you left off, "based on the honor system". My idea is that you are eligible to run if you say you are.

One of our requirements for this class was that guys would not have to change out of heir normal CSH setup. As Dave mentioned we have a bunch of Yamato 2 blades that we would like to use for this class, but we are pretty sure we will have to do a significant rework on them to make them not over-rev at 3/4".

I've been known to change a few inches of pitch on propellers from time to time - I have the perfect pitch block for these props....

                            Props

Jon: The plan is for me to bring all of the 2 blade props to Eatonville on Friday and send a few of them out on one of the boats we are using for the folks in boats thing....I don't want to test them because I am not an experienced C driver....Ric Montoya may be able to be there to test them. Is there any chance u can be there on Friday? If not no big deal....if you have the pitch blocks maybe we can do a little work on them onsite...just a thought. Dave

                              novice C

I will be participating in my first race at Moses Lake. As a rookie, I am interested in this class. Is there any more info available on it? Will it be ran at any other events this year?
