Old 30 Merc
We ran this engine all last year. It was built from Harry Brinkman's parts and has an old Hubble 4 pipe set of stacks. Although it isn't fast it sounds great!

30H Merc
Here's one I ran back in the 80's with wrap around expansion chambers. Was competetive then. 16/21 gears helped spool it up!!Attached Files

-30 vs 24 cubes, ie 25% more displacement.
-four cylinders vs two
-two carbs vs one
-16:21 vs 14:15
-any lower unit you wish
-almost unlimited legal mods
With the extra cubes it should at least run well in runaboutBrian Hendrick, #66 F

.......bottom line....its cheaper and easier to build a Yamato for Cmod........but, the Merc does look and sound way cooler!
I have had them both and like the simplicity (and reliability) of the Yamato 302mod........Last edited by mercguy; 07-14-2011, 06:57 PM.Daren

not necessarily true!!!!! Long courses the "cross-flow" type motors have an advantage.............and the Yamato is not much lighter than the Merc!!
there is a handling difference between the 2 motors though........think about it......Daren

This years C MOD
We have a new C MOD Merc for this year. The engine has been run twice and now we need to do some prop work. The boat we were running the engine on to break it in was way to big and about 145 lbs to heavy. Most likely we will go back to a 16:21 foot also. We are having a new Montana Race Craft built that should be ready in a month or so. The engine on the left is the C and its big brother is the D on the right. C still needs some tuning done and D is in the hunt.
