I have not answered your question. Yes they are legal, in either original 40"
or later 44" form. Long course the new(er) motors bury you,
short course they walk by u coming out of the turns,
especially the Tohatsu's !
A recent rule change allowing exhaust tuners may help some here,
but you will never win a Nationals.
One can however have a lot of fun, race on a low budget,
and help the DSH class while if goes through its transformation.
Runabout racing in D has just about died in NA, other than marathons,
where it may nor mater much what motor one has.
In a 60 mile race the prize is not always to the fastest.
All that said, this poor old rig, combined age of driver, owner and motor,
192 years, took 3rd in last years NA Championship
The motor is a mix of everything from a Mark 50 to Merc 500,
44xs and Wizard 25. It even has an electric starter!
A "new" 44XS ?? Somebody out there selling "new" 44XS's ?? UH OHH I think I'm going to give Wun Hung Lo over in Bejing Ca-Ching China a call... I told him not to release that thing yet. We've been plagued with one set back after another with that project. First it was the Israelis... they bombed the piston foundary over in Syria thinking it was a nuke facility. Then a CIA contractor mis-dialed the coordinates for Bin Ladens toilet and blew up the ball-bearing shop. Nuthin but trouble.
Just go buy a Tohatsu, and a hydraulic steering set-up.... and start enjoying the finest class in Stock Outboard.
