  • apba stockand mod race pineville louisiana

what would we have to do to get a apba stock and mod race in pineville louisiana and if we were ever to get it would anyone that races stock and mod motors in apba, nbra , and aof support it ? this is a good or let me put it this way great lake to race on . it is probably the best lake to race on in the u.s.a. but that is just my young inexperianced mind roaming around ideas that mite not work or they mite i dont know i just thought that this would be a good idead and mite work if we had enough people to support it .im only 16 years old and this has been bothering me for a while so i thought i would see what everyone thought .if you came to the aof nationals and it was your first time to race in pineville did you think it was a good race site plus great pits ? if you did even in the bad weather you should see it when the sun is shining and it is the best weather it can be. its great and you will probably see the fastest speeds that you have seen all year .just a thought so what do yall think ????????????/

    John,

First things first. What club will put on the race? Someone has to work the judges stand.... Can you supply people to work the judges stand?

There aren't any APBA clubs down our way that I am aware of.... I paid the dues for the Pelican club to join NBRA out of my pocket this year and Ralph paid for AOF out of his. IF I pay the dues for the Pelican club to join APBA, and I will, who do we have to work the judges stand?

The judges stand is just a small part of what has to be done. Ambulance? Permits? Whatever else???

There are a lot of things that have to be done to put on a boat race. Even after all that stuff is taken care of, there are no guarantees that boats will show.

For example, there was a race at Coushatta, LA a few years ago that was very well promoted, people to work the judges stand was taken care of in advance, turn boats, prize money was promised, radio and newspaper coverage, EVERYTHING was worked out... 3 trailers showed! This was an AOF race and before there was an NBRA - only APBA and AOF.

Don't get your hopes up too much. If you want to race a lot and with good competition, plan on traveling a lot, racing on less than ideal courses (rivers) with less than ideal pits - cliffs, mud up to your neck, etc. It doesn't matter how good the location is if boats don't show.

Some of us know that Alex is the best place in the country to have a boat race... HOW do you get people to show? If you find out please let the rest of us know.

      Hey John,

I am an APBA racer and raced at Alexandria, it is a first rate site. I think if you were going to try and put on an ABPA race you should try the Winternationals, or a Mod. Nationals. This would garaunte you a good turnout of APBA drivers. I think your site could support a race of that size, now you just need to find a club. If someone down their would do all the pre race legwork I bet you could find an APBA club to handle the exectuion of the race. It would be a great first step in bringing APBA, and AOF together.

      Just a thought,

        APBA Clubs

The IOA (Indiana Outboard Association) has put arace on there before believe, the AOF Natinals one year ? Someone will correct me if I am wrong. But the IOA has sanctions with all three organizations and might be a good starting point. I think a Winter Nationals there for Mod and Stock is a great idea in the future. Another thing to consider is adding some other categories to help you fill the schedule for a local race, maybe OPC, and Pro's, Drag, whatever will work there. I know a few clubs out East do this, and it can make for an exciting show. You have a large number of Tunnel Boats, and Pro category boats down that way that are APBA affiliated.

But first question is, why do you want only APBA race there ? I would work towards having an APBA/AOF sanctioned event. Have both organizations accepting the others membership card. I think that is a great idea to keep the cost to the members down, and the sport of Boat racing up.

Anyways, keep your ideas coming here, most people love to see enthusiasm like yours, the sport needs folks like you to forge ahead.

John, to have an APBA race in LA you need an APBA club to submit a sanction. Then you need APBA certified officials and get the necessary equipment as far as rescue boats and turn judge boats. It's not like AOF and NBRA where any warm body who is a member can referee and inspect.

It would most likely have to be a combined AOF/APBA deal as AOF has had races there and know where and who to get permits and the other things done. If it was the AOF/APBA stock and mod winter Nats and held in the early spring it would draw the boats. Its 2300 miles round trip for me but I would make it there.
Destiny is a matter of chance,it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.

I raced Bu from 1955 to the late 70's. I now live in Lake Charles. If there are races in our area I will try to be there with a couple rigs. Might have both A and B going by then.

John you are probably right that Pineville is one of the best body's of water to race on. DePue is another site with good water and good pits.
Last year NBRA had a September race in Centrilia, IL. This was a first time race put together by some local racers. It was a great showing. We had 15 trailers. 72 entries and a whole lot of fun. The spectators were shuttled in from a near by parking lot. In attendance was state congressman, city mayor, lions club and lots of fans. The races went off smooth. some of the smaller 3-4 boat classes ran the forst 2 laps staying as close together as they could and had a drag race to the finish on the white flag.
Saturday night a local bar resturant "The Green Room"?? gave us a party free food free drinks and all the kareoke you could handle. Sunday was another good day with only one mishap when Burt Hoefs tried showing off in front of the crowd and rolled his EH coming down for the start. "if they just hadn't parked that "short" bus there from the Centrilia Elderly Housing" Burt was a little shook up ended up with wiplash and a couple broken ribs but he's healing up OK.
Ok got alittle off track.. any driver who drove at Centrilia will tell you that it was some of the best water ever raced on. It's a big well protected lake owned by the city and when they shut the lake down for racing it stay's shut down all weekend.
This year July 9-10 2005 The ODA will be hosting the NBRA National Championships on this lake. And the City and local sponsors are so enthused to have us back they put up $5000.00 prize money.
The Water is great the pits are good. There are two availible pit areas on either side of the point that the judges stand is on. The one side has a gravel parking lot and a 3 lane wide boat ramp to get in and out of the water. This worked great for the 15 trailers we had. It could probably hold 35 Trailers and the city is working with us to get more access to the water.
The other pit area is smaller. Maybe room for 10 trailers. It is grass and sand and slopes off into the water.
The 2005 NBRA National Championship Races will honor AOF and APBA membership cards. NBRA will charge only $25.00 for a weekend membership.
