Does anyone know the dates for the Marthon Nationals next year, so that I can plan my vacation time.

Talked to Bob Wilkins on the phone about 3 weeks ago. He said that they were trying to have the race the weekend after the stock closed course natinals.
I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING OFFICAL YET!!

Looks CSR will be a great race with Worm, Duey & Kim Park going at it.

        Marathon Date

Being a Top O' member I hope to god the race date stays in June. It was the best thing ever this year to have it early. We didn't have a lot of trouble with seasonal traffic on the waterway which was a good thing. With stress on the event from permits and local government it is a very good idea to please these organizations. I think that the rumors to move it back to the weekend after the nationals is a plea to resist change. It seems that the nationals get later and later every year. That puts the Marathon too late for anyone that has any ties to a school calendar due to children or their own schedules.

I can't believe my club has even considered moving it back to the end of August. If their concern was people saying that they would not attend because of the early date they need to consider this. People are going to come if they want to compete in the best race in the country regardless of the date.

        June is BETTER
        August is TOO LATE

As an entrant in the race for the 5th time & making the trip from the left coast. It just wasn't the same race in June. In '02 it was best time I ever had at a race in over 40 years of racing. Camping at the Kruz's all week after the nationals, getting boats & motors ready for the race. Swimming. This year's race the water was to cold for that. I vote to have the race in August, I know I can get more drivers to join me at the race from the west coast than in June.

              June race date conflicts

Last year you went head to head against a bsoa race at Depue ,Il
Lost five or six drivers. besides that scheduleing around Summer nats at least you got guys in the area to stay one more week.

Is there any cross over between the PRO racers at DePue and the Marathoners? I can only think of possibly someone in OSY400, they race on Friday. Could the last weekend in July fill everyones need for the Top'O date.

                  Darrell,
That's a great idea! I don't know if there would be any conflict within the club or from the local government but we should definitely let the club in on your idea. That brings up another thought. We are having this opinion discussion that could be useful to the Top O' club, I hope that someone is paying attention that has pull in the club.

Keep in mind this year with the nationals at Dayton the drive north is not going to be to bad if the racer is going to take the time off. Also in past years people sent there boats with folks who could take those 2 weeks and then they returned to run the race. I could see the California guys doing this and even the east cost guys have done this in years past. I sure hope you Top-O guys get this worked out. We past racers have put a chalange out to all potential racers to come support you. I no of a couple guys who went as far as buying and building a special boat to come do battle. I think this is great to see this kind of commitment for a one of a kind race. Just so you know I have my antique D going together as we speak(look out Dale Ropp). I can't wait to pull the cord and get into the river. Anyway please work on getting this date set. The turn out could be the best ever this year if we give the other racers across the county as much time to plan for the best race coarse ever. SEE YA Mike

                      Keep other dates in mind

For those working on the Top O race...keep in mind the other races that go on after the Stock Nationals.

I believe Beloit, Wi. had a race on the 3rd weekend of August.
Alexandria, Ky. was also on that date last year.

Why not put the Top O race on the same weekend as the Pro Natls...or the week after (Aug. 5-6-7) which is the Mod Natls. No mod guys are running Stock Marathon Natls...so you have 2 different audiences. Then, the following weekend is Stock Natls. in Dayton.

For that matter, the entire month of July is usually open in Region 6. No conflicts with much of anything stock outboard related.

What are the dates of the mod nationals in Pennsylnia, and the stock nationals in Dayton. What day of the week do each start and end? I am going to the NBRA meeting in St. Louis this weekend and would like to try and coordinate if at all possible.

                          Hey Rick,

Mod Nationals in Franklin, Pa. are August 3-6.

Stock Nationals in Dayton, Oh. are following weekend. I believe Aug. 11-14. May start day earlier. Ed Hearn knows the answer to that.

By the way, I'm envious of your 4 handicap. Wish I could stay consistently below 10.

Bring your sticks to Dayton. I need a quick lesson during a wind delay. We can shag balls into the Hydrobowl!

                              Club Information

The Top O' Michigan club had a meeting this month. On the agenda was the date. For no reason part of the club deiced to change the date. They took a vote with not all members present. If all were at the meeting the vote would have been for the June date. Last year the race went against Bay City an OPC race and Depue a stock race. I remember not to long ago there was a rule that no other stock race could run against the nationals. Where did the rule go? The members of the club wanted to keep the date in June but get off of bay city to get some racers that race OPC and Stock to come. But I think one reason they moved the date was to get these drivers. Although the date they picked happens to be St. Louis. The second biggest pay out of the year for the Prop Tour. Right now the date is August 21-22 the weekend after the stock nationals at Dayton. I know I might be racing 45 next season and I would go to St. Louis and the date is the weekend before I go back to school. There is also the fact that teachers and students start school right around there. Some people in the club are not taking all these factors into consideration. So the date is still up in the air, there might be a revote, next time I get home, but hopefully the few people in the club who aren’t thinking get their act together because they are killing the race and I don’t want to see that happen.
