It will be hard to give up the conversion van for our longer trips. But, I've been working on making my little trailer much more aerodynamic. My goal is to make it easily pulled behind a family sedan. The gas savings will be significant.

Fuel costs have never been the deciding factor for me going to a race. The race site is the deciding factor, and it's on the same plane with the number of boats who will be running DSH. If it's a doggy site with not much promise of competition (ie less than 3 or 4 boats) the heck with it. I only run D, but if it looks like there will be some FE's to play with I've been known to go just to help out. Fuel is what it is.... we have adjusted to it before. Just DO NOT F--- with the speed limits.

We reimburse my boat repo man for his diesel for anything above $2.75 a gallon, even when we go to the west, the reimbursement only totals $40-$100. That seems nominal when you consider what we (boat racers) have invested in our equipment. I can't imagine staying home from a big event for a couple hundred bucks. No offense intended. Just my perogative. BT

          Bryan,

I think it is more for the folks that travel and race nearly every weekend here in the midwest. When I was really after it a few years ago I was gone every weekend from mid may until first weekend in Oct racing. Add that up for fuel costs... Ya, it makes me pick and choose. I would try to keep travel to 5 - 7 hours one way for each race, except the big ones like Nat's. If you only hit 4 or 5 races a year it is not as big of a hit, i agree.

The number of races within 5 or 6 hours drive will certainly make a difference on whether fuel is a significant factor.

If I want to go to a boat race, I will go to a boat race. The cost of gas is not a factor. If money is a factor, I'll cut back somewhere else.

                Gas/Diesel

Just filled up my tow vehicle outside of Seattle....reg gas was 3.65 a gallon...the station owner told me he had FOUR price increases in 2 days....and Diesel fuel was at $4.19 a gallon.....and while we were chatting another price increase came over the phone line...another 9 cents a gallon for gas.....FIVE price increases in 2 days. I mean..come on.....Houston...we REALLY have a problem here.

Quitchertwitchen... just keep paying your taxes (even if yer not working) so that our politicians in WA DC can keep their tanks full. Otherwise they'll have to start scratching like the rest of us and then they won't have time to tell us they feel our pain.

Next thing you know, they'll discover that the earth really is flat and of course we'll be convinced of the 'fact' because after all, Fox, Cnn, Al Jizz-air-ah, and the Seattle Intelligencia, would jump right on it, and IF... IF the earth was round all the water would fall off. So, any imbecile could see that.

Okay lemmings.... let's get lined up, and you lemmings with no jobs...you go to the front of the line! There's gonna be a big prize for the first group over the edge.

The people responsible for the ethanol subsidy will be directing traffic.

You mean like this? It is hard to see but there is what appears to be a KG9 on the lifeboat.

I see the KG9... looks like it won't start... probably got a nice load of E85. Karl... lookit all those familiar faces on the second boat. Bet they're having second thoughts.

So Karl... here's what you an me are gonna do. Since we're rid of the lemmings we'll just fire up the Bass Machines Tohatsu and head on back to port...pilfer some wine and go find some Puerto Rican girls and have a really good time... cause they aint coming back (referring to the morons going over the edge).

Trouble is, replacements are already out there.
