  • $5.00 Gas

After watching the evening news, and the prospect of $5.00 a gal. gas this racing season. Will it affect how far you will travel for a boat race? I know in our case it will. Was planning on making the 900+ mile trip from St louis to Somerville Tex. for the first NBRA race. Just sat down and did a little math. If we get 12mpg. fuel cost is most probably going to be in excess of $900.00. Had thoughts of maybe of going to Jessup. I am afraid that would be budget buster. Hoping that the Tex. race will have some tow money..

And what about diesel.... I just ballparked the 1227 oneway ride to Jesup at $3.79 a gal times 14mpg it'll only cost me $664 for the round trip. Now if diesel jumps to $4.95 like it did a couple years ago it will be $860. Whoa!!

Anybody want to buy a Cougar 21 tunnel with a 2004 250 merc racing optimax with 49 hours on it? How do you post photos on HR anyway?

We take two diesel trucks to our races one with the travel trailer and one with the race trailer so we may have to cut way back on the racing for the future.

Hey Art, don't be too worried, they always preach doom and gloom on the evening news. I don't think the OK/TX oilmen will let it get that bad. Ram, is that a Canadian or KS built Cougar?

            Move to region 1

!3 days of racing --closest race is 3/4 of an hour away -- longest drive 3.5 hours--and I live in Maine!!

...there can't be too many guys worried about it. I have another post to let everyone know I am looking for riders to Jessup.I could haul as many as three rigs other than my own.Sharing expenses would surely make the trip less painfull. After two weeks ,I have yet to get a single response. I think we all need to start teaming up to get to the races. Maybe the lack of interest means I ain't much fun ?

                      Tough.. But Doable

It means I have to pick and choose wisely. The races with good tow money are the ones to look at. I know which ones offer tow money, normally.

What a sad era we are in when fuel for both the race boats and tow vehicles is beccoming a major expense. It used to be a no brainer. I think it is safe to say boat racing costs have soared well above cost of living raises. It has become a barrier of entry.

Yup... that's it. 1987, so I guess it's made in the USA. Can someone please tell me in rather simple terms how to post a photo here on HR?

If gas stays close to $3, I will be able to go to 5 or 6 races ... if it goes to $5, I will probably have to choose just 3.
