SO Winter Nationals Eatonville, WA April 2nd & 3rd
Since we will be doing a LOT more inspection work at this race (we are flying Roger Carr up from Cali to be the chief inspector for Winternats) we will need more room. I intend to keep trailers out of the area even with the turnoff to to Jimi's area (on the right) all the way to the ramp. This means the area where Guedo normally puts his trailer, as well as the other side where Rautenbergs usually have theirs. We may end up using more of the grass area for pit space, as well as more of the upper lot. Mark Mallory will be pit boss again, so I expect the whole show down at the ramp to run smoothly as usual. I am also putting out first call for gas powered weed whackers to knock down the grass an Jimi's place Friday morning. Let me know if you can help, if we can get 2-3 of them going we should be able to make quick work of it.
I was out there last week & the shoreline looks great, and at 20 degrees today I doubt the grass is growing.

Looking forward to the race!!!
Jimi O. (305-R)
You are right Jimi. The grass has not grown much since the August race and should be good till about July when the heat comes to go with all the rain. I am looking forward to the race just to see everyone. This is sooner than we had planned but will be fun rain or shine.
Well there is only 3 weekend left to get ready before its racing time. My big question is what has the weather been like over there? I am looking for any temp of 40 or above. For us that will feel like summer.
Last time we ran a 3/4 mile course at Silver Lake we never came even CLOSE to setting any records, but it was a freakishly warm 85 degrees that day. Knowing that lower temp = more horsepower I figure the best shot we have at any of these records is when it's nice and chilly out

Dan,
Myself and Rick Sandstrom can discuss this further as the referees. However, my feeling is no. We've been running a basically 3/4 mile course for years now (.8 mile). Having been out in a boat with full fields I don't know what rodeo you're referring to. It's some of the best water we run on all year, and without question the best for that size course. (Maybe cullaby, but I think it might be a bit bigger).
The other thing is that this is the winter nationals, and whether people set records or not, people WILL be getting double points. That said, I think we should run it as a regular race, and not introduce weird milling rules that will change the competition.
Lastly, where would you suggest this special milling area be? In my opinion, with a full field on that size lake, you're not going to be able to find a good area for people to be that wouldn't mess up some part of the course. If you have a good suggestion on this topic, my ears are more than open.

The rough water comes from wakes rebounding off the dock, just mill on the back stretch, but it's nothing compared to the on plane wakes from Oroville.
Nats can get rough, that's what you get with full fields, you got to have a set up that will run in all conditions...
I concur with Barteltt. I feel that we should suggest that milling take place on the back stretch only. There is plenty of lake out there to use beyond the first turn and I feel that it would greatly reduce the rollers near the second turn and the start.
Also, will the 1000 foot buoy rule be implemented or will we defer to the exit pin as the 500 foot buoy? Either way, I think we should pop a few outside course markers, to better define the chute. One even with the exit buoy to turn two, one even with the start line buoy, and a few between making a parallel line for racers to follow both outside and inside lanes. might help us with our racers that have trouble defining what a straight line is If I wasn't going to be in school, I;d be more than willing to come help out.
Kyle,
The course is going to be the 3/4 mile record course. Any buoys will be as approved on the survey. There is no rule requiring a 1000' buoy. The only rule about the course for a national championship is Safety rule 8)-4) "4. At Stock Outboard national championships, the distance from the starting line to the entrance buoy of the first turn shall be at least 1,000 feet.
If, due to extenuating circumstances, it is not possible to meet this criterion, the race committee must have approval by the majority of commissioners
present to waive this rule"
I do not know off the top of my head if the distance from the start to the turn is 1000' on the survey, but even if it's not we just need approval from the present commissioners. Considering that will likely be KB, and Dave I don't think we'll have to hard a time.

just a word so that you do not have any boat number problems. The top boat needs to have is numbers outlined in Black. Decks numbers are recommended only and are not required.
