You gonna need a bigger boat :-) if someone is planning to actually drive this thing I would have EMT personnel standing by ready to resuscitate the driver :-)
Is it a new mod class for a J driver? How would an adult fit on or in that thing.
When it comes to boat racing and the wife, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is permission, and of course I spent a number of nights sleeping on the couch!
This rig looks like it would have serious water intake probs. Also, every PWC I have driven requires the pilot to stand/squat when the water conditions are anything other then dead calm or the bugger will porpoise and stuff. Hard to stand/squat and control the ride angle if you're locked in a cockpit.
Darling Daughter's 650cc PWC is as fast as the Naughty Lady (Starcraft patrol boat), clocked by TN water police at 52, but when running over a little chop the interruption in intake flow makes it lose ground.
Located in the Maritime Museum in Norfolk, VA is a cool PWC looking enclosed cockpit rig designed by Volvo. It is a lot cooler looking, no pipes, just sleek.
I'm not all that sure that waterjet efficiency is 40% less than a prop. Checking back issues of Wooden Boat magazine - Dude built a 26' Down East style lobster boat, round chine, and dropped a 1000cc Kawi PWC engine in it. Boat was cedar stripped with 1/2" thick strips and glassed with a couple layers of 10 oz cloth. I seem to recall the rig went a couple thousand pounds plus. 1000cc = about 60 c.i., and that puny waterjet shoved the 26' boat along at around 35 MPH. Not to shabby.
Silencers on the exhaust make one think that is craft was built in Europe. I saw a similar craft outside of Atlanta maybe 12-15 years ago. I only saw it at a shop, bot in the water. No idea what became of it. I was told that it was a prototype for new racing class. I believe that DeSilva built the boat.
Prop vs impeller: dont know the #s & it probably varies. One thing for sure tho, compared to a typical kneeler/laydown outboard race boat, a 'jet' PWC requires mega hp to be as fast or faster. As far as water pickup, no doubt a problem for a hydro or tunnel with lift but what if the pickup grate[s] were in the sponsons? Of course the lift & angle of attack would have to be right. Id guess if run like an inboard hydro as it is, on the sponsons it could work. A complete run of pics would be interesting.
i did not photo shop it i just found it on Google images i did not touch it i don't know what is up with it it cant be RC because its looks like its 10 ft i doubt it is legal to do that because of you standing on the dock and you would have horrible perception at the distance and you would crash it but you would be a midget (no offense to any one) to fit in it I doubt it was photo shops because the sizes are correct and the battery in the background makes a nice reference
if you do not believe me look here and here
and that was uncalled for (Ekorpe) i am not messing with you guys i found it and i thought some one might have some info or might enjoy seeing a pic of something like it but i wont be insulted like that thank you!
i thought that was a jet to but where it the intake and to make that work because of the plane part of hydroplane would make you half to add to it so i am stumped i have never seen it or heard of something like that i wish i could see it it person
could it possible be a regular kneel one just you lean over the motor like its under you chest and your head sticks out at the top front of the cockpit?
