We still have the park for the weekend. Maybe we can gather for a racer barbecue and show & shine competition, maybe a "new racer" promotion drive, and throw in some shoreline mussel racing?

On second thought
As I sit here at my desk paying bills....maybe I won't come down to California....and, I think all of the people that were planning on coming to Indio, took time off from work, bought plane tickets, and so on down the line, should submit an itemized bill to the water district. I would bet that will get their attention. Also, make sure the Indio Chamber of Commerce and other business agencies know about the money that is not going to be spent that weekend.....I am sure it is more then a few dollars....I bet that will also get some people's attention. I think I would have spent around $1000 in California on the event, and I am just one person. Just a random thought. Did not something sort of similar happen at the Super Bowl last Sunday? Maybe not a good analogy, but it shows what upset people can accomplish...I think a class action lawsuit was filed against Jerry Jones, owner of the Cowboys, for breach of faith....hmmmmmmmm............

Cancelled Rooms and Flights
Yo,
I have cancelled rooms and flights..... which had been revised two times before.
Thanks Ernie and Jeff for all your work. It is totally not your fault.
The reasons for not letting us on the lake have obviously been there for months.
To cancel us on this short notice is the most un-professional thing I have ever seen.
See you at the races.

Please write to express your dissapointment in cancelling this event and ask them to become more educated on our form of racing so they may reconsider their decision.

Here's mine
This is what I submitted:
From:

Subject:
Web Question - Conservation
Message:
As a person who WAS planning on coming to your community and spending over a thousand dollars in fuel, hotel accomodations for my family, meals and other expenses, I am extremely disappointed in the apparent capriciousness and abruptness you have exercised in cancelling the Stock Outboard Winternationals at Lake Cahuilla on March 12-13.
If you had any grasp over the reality of who we are and what we do, you would surely understand that our types of boats provide virtually NO EXPOSURE to risk of introducing the Zebra Mussel into Lake Cahuilla. And your seeming refusal to work with Ernie Dawe and the conducting club on this matter indicates either an appalling lack of understanding on your part, or a narrow-mindedness to refuse to bring an activity to your community which I am sure the Chamber of Commerce and local businesses would and should be concerned with.
Did I mention I'm pretty angry about this?

The following is a copy of the email I just sent the CVWD concerning the cancellation of race. Just thought you might be interested.
I am a member of the APBA and was planning on attending the Stock Winter Nationals race to be held there next Month. I just wanted you to know that your arbitrary and capricious decision to cancel the race has cost the business community in your area a great deal of money to say nothing of the inconvenience and cost to those who had planned to attend who hold non-refundable airline tickets or who have juggled their work schedules to take those days off. Your lame excuse of "zebra mussel control" and gasoline spills could easily have been addressed.
It probably won't even get to those who need to see it but it made me feel lots better.
