Classics at 2011 Top'O

Gents,
Per the APBA rulebook there are NO height limits/restrictions for Stock Classic. There are NO weight limits/restrictions for Stock Classic. To my knowledge there are no boat limits at all. And... the only engine limitatation is that it must have been "out of production since 1986" and be in it's stock configuration. That would lead me to judge that it needn't even be a racing engine??....but you'd have to get a ruling from the Top'O Referee prior to the event. Like others have posted to remind potential drivers, ALL raceboats/engines must be inspected and display a current safety sticker for 2011. This will include appropriate boat safety equipment like kill switch, deadman throttle, suitable steering controls, etc. Likewise, the driver must wear all appropriate driver safety gear, approved helmet, floatation, kevlar pants/sleeves, footwear, etc. Check the rulebook for details.
KG-4, I would suggest that your son get significant boat time AND as a minimum at least study for and take the "J" written test before even considering running at Top'O in any boat/motor combination. Also, the Race Director or Referee may require a driver competency demonstration ride for any rookies? Mike Raceboat61-S

Just a reminder!
Just wanted to remind folks about classics running at Top'O. We've heard from a few, are there any others out there?
Lets try and keep this one alive, folks. We need to improve our participation to keep this happening. Thanks again to all that are planning to come and to those that are thinking about it: Get those old 'classics' out of the barn and get a tank in it, and come join us for a great run. Mark Kurz

Top-O contact info?
A contact number or an email address for the director of the Classics division would be a wonderful thing. I can't seem to find it on my own.sigpic

I am in need of info regarding registration for this years Top 'O Classic Marathon. Can I join APBA for this event only at Indian River? Would membership in a local club also be required?
My plans are to run my 1978 Menzies HammerCraft B/25SS with power by a Ron Thomas built Merc 25. I have most of what I need gathered-just need some time on the water to learn how to make right turns (not that my left turns were that good).
Any other Badger State participants?

2012
We have 2 boats that we were targeting for the 2011 top o classic. However due to other personal conflicts we will have to wait until 2012. I have a D Morphew replica built by Tom Bolhuis and Bernie Van Osdale is prepared to bring a class B next year. The point being made is that we are encouraging keeping the classic as an event. More boats are coming. Ed Kriewall
p.s. I finished 2nd in the fifties in class A right behind Tom Tom
Most fun I ever had!!!!
