Did any of you sharp eyed old Top O drivers notice the white Top O tee shirt that someone (?) is wearing on jkimble12's old video? Also, some of his footage on one of the 8 videos shows Top O footage at the bridge in Indian River.

                Turn Fin

I am restoring a '60s 9'6"Speedliner Runabout and have a question re the turn fin. I will run the fin in the center of the hull but what size of fin(length and depth) should I run? Plan to run at Top O marathon so need to turn left and right. Thanks Bill.

I've found that fins are a personal choice, I run the fins from Brown Tool. One on the bottom and one on each outer chine, only to be used on the sharper turns. Or at least that's when I think they come into play. They may not be needed, but I think Top'O is a good place for a little extra fin.
I like fins as I have the desire to stay off the sides of the river, not a good place to be, unless there is a big party at that particular spot, then I suppose it would be okay.
I wonder if we can get any of our veteran drivers to comment on fins.
Bring that speedliner out to KampKurz for a test session. Plenty of room to test your 'righties'. KampKurz

                    Fins

Thanks Kampkurz. The fin I have is 9" long and 21/2" deep and I was wonder ing if that was deep enough. The boat is 9'6" long. Thanks again for the test offer--I may take you up on it--cheers Bill.

mark, i found that often my one belly fin would seem to be out of the water at an inopportune time. im going to two wider placed belly fins along with my chine fins next year in hopes of having something down in the water when im rockin an rollin past you and your wake:-p. anyways just a thought to contribute. both fins are sorensen hardware along with the hull. not the same but figured id chip in
Which way was the shiny side supposed to go? Up?

Pete Schwab converted to a two fin set up on his CSR marathon boat. He says it has worked out ok for him.........just an FYI.

I suppose it would be wishfull to run an old speedliner with a Merc 900 that I was told did the Winebagoland Marathon?

                            Mini-Max,
The APBA rules for Stock Classic are very liberal. I see NO reason why you could not run this rig at Top'O Classic ! Just remember that all APBA racing safety rules apply to your personal racing equipment....that includes: Deadman throttle, approved steering hardware, tethered kill-switch, and all of the racer's kevlars, approved helmet, etc. Nice rig ! Hope to see you at Indian River. Talk to KampKurz and plan a day of testing with us on Burt Lake. Perhaps we can help you avoid a last minute dissapointment at the Sat. AM Safety Inspection.
