    Classic course

    Brian,

If I remember correctly the classic course is 10 or 12 miles. The bulk of it is in Indian River which is great water. There is a little bit on the open lake to the turn around at "The Breakers." I hope to see you up there this year. It is just too much fun.

I could bring up a dsr, but don't want to take the bottom out of it.
Maybe only put a 40" on it, one i got from jeff years ago,
that he built for there. Be good if it got to run up there.
who"s bottom are you worried about--yours or the boat"s?

          Classic course!

Yes, I do believe it to be around twelve miles. The part of the course that runs along the south-west corner of Mullet Lake to the turn-around buoy at the 'Breakers' is always the most calm part of the lake.
If you blow the bottom out on this course, you needed a bottom anyway.
Bring em' on up and let em' rip! KampKurz

I last raced Top O' in 2008. When I got home my wife wanted to know why my butt was black and blue. Mullet Lake was a "little" rough that year. My heels were a little sore too from contact with my butt. From the scrape my butt obviously contacted the transom clamps at some point as well. Can't wait to do it again.

                        Gents,
The 61-S boat is mine. Ian Duggan was my "Hired gun" last year because I had had knee replacement surgery only a couple months previous. The boat is my original 'glass' Rinker. I picked up this hull in the summer of 1965 after helping Jan Rinker pop it out of the mold at the factory in Syracuse, IN. I framed and decked it myself when I got it home. It'll be back again this Summer. See you there ! Mike Raceboat61-S

                              That's Classic all right.

The 61-S is truly a classic, or at least what we had in mind when we decided to include classics. But...don't let not having a 'truly classic' hull to run deter you from participating in this years' Top'O . While it is appreciated, a classic hull is not required. I imagine there are a lot of boats around that would qualify as 'classic', and if you have on, or can get your handson one...Great! But a classic motor is all that's required.
Just a long winded bump to the top. KampKurz

Agreed! This is a great addition to a truly historic and traditional event. It’s great to see these old boats and motors come out of mothballs and on the course again. I enjoy hearing people tell stories about these old rigs. The stories of marathons such as Belle Isle, Albany to New York, Top O and many others are some of the best in all of racing. I know for me personally its races like Top O that keep me fired up about boat racing. I’d love to see a return of marathon racing in some of these traditional sites. I’m glad the members of Top O are keeping this tradition alive and with this addition of the Classic event I look forward to hearing the stories and seeing these old boats compete again. So fire’em up fella’s!! LET’S RIDE!!
