Classics at 2011 Top'O

Bill, you and me can maybe get a "group rate" on Tylenol. I am 67 and will be running my 14th Top O. I started out in '98 running a KG4 "A" boat. For that one race they allowed classics to run the full course. I was hooked and have run every race since then (most in CSR). More power to you running an "A" at your age. Good luck.

As I recall, the only 55H entered in the "Classics" in 2010 never got off the beach on Sunday? Electrical problem, I think, only 2 cylinders firing and couldn't plane off? Mike

No, Ron Oswalt 888-M Finished both days. He fell out in the Inidian River Sunday but got back in and finished.

He was going when I saw him. It's good to hear the interest for classics.
If everyone would share the info with folks we don't often hear from here on Hydroracer, that would be a good thing.

Classic course

The classics will run the same course both days. However, it is premium course both days. More fans on the first couple corners than you have ever seen at any other SO race, and there are many other corners full of fans.

You took the words out of my mouth Mark! I was just about to point out the fact that the classics race through the most prime part of the entire race course. (well, except for Crooked river)

The Top O' is unique to any other race in the entire country today. It is unforgettable.

Crooked River!

Ya' know Jeff, I've only done Top'o for three years, but I can remember when I pitted for Craig Bowman, how he used to just get a gleam in his eyes when he'd talk about running Crooked River. With the exception of the Oxbow and Devil's Elbow, there is some really fast water in that river, once you know it's 'safe' to run it like that.
That being said, I think the Indian River is the most fun of the rivers. Nice mix of challenging corners, some fast areas, and once again, fans like you've never seen before.

I ran my first Top O many many years ago and still go to help who I can with what ever needs to be done. Kamp Kurz is a great place to stay and Mark is an absolute great host. What a great place to camp and enjoy Burt Lake.

The Classic class is a great way for those who are interested in trying this great race to do so. Since it is not part of the Championship, you can participate with a single event membership, run your short course runabout, and see if you like it with a minimum outlay. I would guarentee that you will be hooked and never ever be sorry that you gave it a try. It's the most fun I've ever had boat racing! Great place to visit in the summer, great ice cream place around the corner form Mark Daspit's house, and overall fun. I went up 5 days early last year just to get my ice cream fix. Jack

Mark...best parts of the Top O course--Indian River, Cheboygan River, Crooked River. Worst parts--everything else. Well...that isn't exactly true. The lakes are fun too when it isn't blowing a gale (which seems to be most of the time.

Thanks for including the classics, as I am a rookie in the modern hydro world, my father who is in his 70's was very excited when I called him on the phone to tell him that it is a go! He will be there with his vintage switzercraft baby bullet and kg7h to run a race for the first time in 30 years or so!

How long is the 'Classic' course
I could bring up a DSR, but don't want to take the bottom out of it.
Maybe only put a 40" on it, one I got from Jeff years ago,
that he built for there. Be good if it got to run up there.
