  • What is Best AXH/ASH plans to build

I want to scratch build an AXH/ASH. I see two plans available, The Frailik A and Sorenson A "Little Rascal" for which plans are available. Both boats are older than ten years. Is there other choices and which is the best boat for competition and why? I plan to run all three motors, sidewinder, Mercury and OMC.

Your input and source for the plans is appreciated.

    Suggestion

    Bob,

I would suggest a set of plans from MRC. The Montana boys have purchased the remains of the MJR Composites plans and are ready to sell plans, and maybe even kits.

You have a few choices, but I can say that I am betting the Montana boys can try some cutting edge things and it might just work out real well in your favor to have the design nobody else has in competition.

Just a suggestion. I wouldn't hesitiate to order a set of plans from them.

      Hemp

Call Sam Hemp. Fast boats and I believe he still sells kits.

While Val's boat is a 'original' Hemp, Sam's kit boat is the same design. George Stillwill got one and put it together a couple years ago and it works great. And Val's original has been a pretty good AXSH/ASH boat also.!!...........

        Good luck..........

          Another vote for the B&H

I have watched Sam Hemp's A boats run many times while doing turn boat duty and they are very good. I have seen drivers who normally were mid-pack become frontrunners after making the switch to Sam's current design.

Thank Dave, its hard to compete against all the east coasters but I think we at MRC have a good boat. Who ever runs a MRC/MJR post a picture of your boat for Bob. Thanks

              Pic

Boat # X is a boat similar to the MJR design. It won the SEH 2009 Nat's for NBRA.

Gives an idea of the hull though.

Get a kit from Sam this is the boat you want to build, make sure you get the CD with the construction pictures or I can send you one. Makes it easier to build when you can see where and how all the pieces go.

I did it George. Sam put together a kit for me and it will arrive Mon Jan 24. All the way from WI to Kingston, WA. 78lbs UPS cost about $140 to ship. Not to bad considering the distance. Now to put it together and get it ready for mid season or maybe before the Nats.

I have built a Sorenson Jackel from scratch. Much fun. Weight all up ready to race 94 lbs. I put a heavier bottom and heavy floor pan since I weigh 132. This machine will have a sidewinder on it. New and New. Should be fun.

Kingston, Wa. Thank you for your offer to sell your boat. I am however one of those types that like to work with his hands and building a boat is part of the enjoyment experience. I prefer to build from scratch from plans but there are no plans available for the truly fast boats. several of the guys said Hemp , Hemp, Hemp so I called Sam and ordered a kit. It arrives today.

Yea, Talk is cheap. Now I got to walk the talk. But then that is what life and racing is all about. This is going to be fun. I still like the idea of scratch building, Have some extra wood so it is time to make some sawdust.
