Here is a good discussion topic that might be interesting. Does anyone have any ideas about the perfect helmet for a lay-down hydro? Is there a design that allows easier movement and better vision? Opinions and advice….?

Maybe you could ask... who looks back? LOL
Certainly the weight of the helmet should be as light as possible. The helmet must also have a snug fit.
I was thinking about helmets that don't contact your neck when you look upward. Or helmets that don't come low on your forhead to obstruct your vision while looking upward. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I like to know where everyone is before the start and if anyone is trying to catch me when I am in the lead which only happens briefly once in a while.
The thing that has helped me the most is folding that beaver tail flap on the life jacket underneath. Then it stops pushing the helmet over the eyes and does not rub the helmet.Mike - One of the Montana Boys

I think a Japanese Kyotei racing helmet would be perfect for lay down racing. Made by Arai, lightweight, and excellent view. I tried to buy one, but they are not for sale to anyone outside the professional Kyotei circuit. Also they're not DOT or SNELL approved... Bummer.

i run marathons so i havent tried my helmet with the laydown concept, but i have an hjc (i think) full face crotch rocket helmet that i rattle canned orange... and i can look pretty close to straight up with it on. if anybody is that interested in it i can run up to my shop and take a look at it. helmet was given to me at cost because it was last years stock, but im pretty sure its about 150 new... fairly light but could be better.Which way was the shiny side supposed to go? Up?
