Mike was always willing to lend a hand if you'd ask; never an argument or complaint. Always there to greet you by name with a smile.

Robin & Danielle, our prayers are with you.

I took this in Camden '04, after he'd had a little bit too much rubbin' while racin' and had to have some on-site factory repairs to his boat.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mike's family. We have had to say good bye to far too many great racers over the past few years.

            Thanks for the memories Mike.

                  Approaching the Clock

I thought it would be fitting to include a photo of Mike in a runabout. Approaching the clock at Millville, Fall 2006.

While I haven't raced in a long time, I'll never forget Mike Kench and all the memories I have of him. His sister Robin and I started racing ASR at the same time and Mike, along with guys like Dave Dewald and Billy Allen were my heroes. Mike could be intimidating, but he was always one of the first ones there to help carry a boat or lend a hand. The nights spent hanging around the Bezoats shop, sneaking sips of Rolling Rock and listening to Craig and Shannon and Mike and Jake and Jimmy were a huge part of my growing up. And when my brother Keith died, Mike was one of many of the family of boat racers there helping carry the weight that my mom, dad and I were staggering under during that time of tragedy

I hadn't seen Mike in years, until just last week. I was driving through Lambertville and I saw him coming the opposite way. He had that signature Mike Kench smirk on his face and I remember laughing at the sight of it.

My deepest, heartfelt sympathies to all of those who loved Mike and called him brother and friend. We are all poorer for his loss.

Here's to a full field, a fast boat, a light chop and clean water ahead.
