Very sad to hear this. While I didn't know Mike well, I always will remember him being such a great competitor throughout the years in Stock Outboard. He truly is a legend. My deepest sympathy to Robin, Danielle and Mike's family.

So many have already said it, but Mike was as tough as they come on the race course and as willing to help in the pits as anyone.
Although it's been quite a few years since we've raced against each other, I will always remember the many great races in ASH we had in the late 80s during the Merc Challenge days. Those were big races with competitors from all over the East Coast and Midwest and it was during this time I got to know Mike better. He was a Great guy and I'm happy to have known him and competed along side of him.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Mike's family and friends.

Its always hard to lose a friend. Michael and I traveled together to the races back in the '70s and early '80s. I can still remember him at the Cane Farm where Shanon and Craig built their boats. It was a great time in my life just knowing everyone that worked out of that location. I last saw Michael in Michigan at the Nationals 2 years ago, he was truly a good person and I know I will miss him. May you rest in peace. My thoughts are with his whole family.Kegs

I didn't know Mike real well, other than to say hi to him when I would see him at Nationals.
Our first meeting was was at Oroville CA in 1983 when he and David Dewald came out to the Stock Nationals. I was walking through the pits and he bounced a soccer ball off my head. (Typical)
But the thing that I thnk said the most about him was at Grass Lake 2008 when he crashed in BSH and his old Shoei helmet came off. That night, Scott Reed was taking a collection to get enough money to give to Mike so he could buy a new helmet. People were trying to collect without him finding out what was going on. Somehow or another the hat that was being passed made it to him, and not knowing who or what it was for, Mike went to make a donation to it. I believe it took several people to explain to him to not donate, that is was a collection on his behalf. A kind guy who would help anybody, whether he knew them or not.
Race in Peace, and keep the soccer ball on the ground.
