So who all is running and what is your platform? Stock, Mod, PRO - all should post here as it would be nice to see where people stand BEFORE we get to our region meetings.

I am running for SO from R7 and will try to post my platform some time this weekend.

I am running for the Stock Outboard Racing Commission.

I support a new direction in Stock outboard, which will include a look at realignment of stock classes. I believe that this is the right direction to be taken at this time; 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' motto works here and I say we (SO) are broke and need fixing.
I support new motors in stock and ALL motor makers. This includes yamato, sidewinder, mercury (A), and tohatsu. I believe a realignment of classes to include all motors is possible and should be done. An A, B, C, D format can occur with new motors and old. Old motors such as the OMC A, and yamato 80 are factors in this realignment for me. Right now we cannot and should not make a realignment happen without these motors. Stock outboard does have a membership problem and clearly can not be solved by the elimination of motors in the near future.

I love stock outboard and love boat racing. I think because we are the largest category in APBA we need to have a clear plan of what we're about and where we are going.

I've been an APBA and Seattle Outboard member for 15 years and still can't get enogh racing. I Grew up in Seattle and have raced at some point most stock classes; JSH, JSR, ASH, ASR, BSR, 25SSR, 25SSH, CSH, CSR, DSH. Today mostly just CSH, CSR, DSH.

Elect me because I REALLY want to goto Detroit in January LOL. Hope I have the opportunity to help out a sport I love. Thanks.

              Y302s

Thanks Dave. I'll let Jim know.

Need to help clarify for everyone. You don't need to spend a lot of money on a Y302 to go fast. Buy one and race it! We have quite a few in our Region that have been fast "out of the box".

Make sure Don posts his platform as well. I think you both will represent our Region very well.

I didn't realize stocks were so costly. Less then $1200 I can get my 120 Machined.

Thanks to all of you who are going to run for the commission. Your time at that thankless job helps me spend time at the races with my son.

Also...as a long time D stock hydro racer...we need to look at maybe moving the weight up 20lbs in DSH to 500, as well as taking the restrictions (prop height wise) on the Tohatsu to make it more competative. I think the fears of some people that the new D motor is going to make the 44XS obsolete are just not true....the XS is still faster...and we need to help motor manuf. sell motors....just some random thoughts. Dave, I guess you must be spending too much money for your machine work in your area? It is comments like this that potential New Racers look at and say , I have to spend this much money on top of the Equipment that they already purchased? I have never spent even close to that for work on any powerhead and it is very disappointing to see you throw that kind of numbers out their when that is not even true.

Dave, did you pull those $$$ figures out of your azz???? I even have less than that into my COMPLETE 302mod powerhead and that includes the pipe system!! Someone is giving you BAD info!!! I wanna be the machinist that is able to collect those kind of $$ figures!!!!!!

PS: I doubt 20lbs is gonna make any difference in DSH.......

                        Machining Costs?

Dave, Dave, Dave....where are you getting these numbers? I think someone's pulling your leg on thiis.

For the record, the cost of "blueprinting" our Nationals-winning Yamato 302 was in fact, barely into two figures. I think Slip charged me close to a grand to massage our 44XS. Other 302s, done by various other people, were under a grand.

If YOU'RE paying that kind of dough to get engines blueprinted, I want to be your machinist!

                          STOCK motors

To all future SORC members, please keep in mind that with the Sidewinder (and to a certain extent the Tohatsu) you have the opportunity that only comes around once in a while, that is to keep them as close to stock as possible. I know the Sidewinder is still under developement, but hopefully when it's completely done people will be able to race it "off the shelf" with NO modifications needed. Back to platform statements guys and gals.

                              Off Topic - Maybe

I see people posting numbers on Machining stock engines. If you take it to a local machinist and inform them what to do, and they charge you normal shop rate you will be over a grand. Simple math.

Now then, those that are winning and are considered to be the so called top guns in any stock class are not the types to send their powerhead to a known machinist very often. The good stuff is done in private. There is no such thing as stock outboard.... time to realize this is now.

I can't tell you how many people have contacted me wanting a stock outboard modified to race in stock... oxymoron. From A stock engines to D stock engines.

Stock.... My definition is off the shelf, or off the back of the pleasure boat no mods allowed. I should be able to take my stock outboard engine off my race boat and clamp it on my pleasure craft. But we all know that is a thing of the past. Perhaps that is why some numbers have went away ? Look at your strongest years, what engines were being ran ? Off the shelf.... available at ANY Merc or OMC dealer in the country. Hot Rod had a factory, it was easy to get a stock engine.

Anyway, you all need to have a platform to run on, now is the time to eliminate some things, numbers are at all time lows. If you lose some members, all you can do is grow... Someone needs to step up to the plate and make the decisions, the hard decisions. Maybe it is time to hire an outside agent..... the Stock outboard fund seems to have plenty of cash in it.
