  • 2 winter nationals?

In an effort to grow the sport I suggest this:

An east and a west coast winter nationals. Any driver could attend one or both but only the first one attended would count towards points. The drivers who DNS could drive cross country and have a redo!!!!! Hard price to pay for not venting your gas tank. LOL

    Benefits:

    Participation and Participation.

Can you win a 750R or csh championship without a winter nationals? More drivers would be in the hunt and would increase participation for things like NA champs and divisional races. example: west coast national, east coast NA champ in 750 = the 33m does not attend the divisional this year.

how many east or west coast guys make the trip to the opposite coast? less than 10? Lockhaven had more entries than the nationals this year...(I think I read that)

The savings of a more local winter nationals makes a true cross country trip possible.

    Safety.....

The long drives add to the cost and hours we put our families at risk.

The time it takes for travel would be localized and more clubs would have an opportunity to host a nationals.

What do you think? Would stock and mod be better off meeting for only one national event a year.

huh no offense but nobody ever mentions driving safety when i or my fellow west coast guys make a drive to NY, FL, MI, ILL, etc....which i do on a mostly year basis.

Another question? how would points work out? HOC points? Would this still be double points race?

I feel a true nationals is exactly what it is, a NATIONALS. Not a regional race, but a national race. If you do west/east coast winter nationals or even summer nationals, It's not really a naitonals is it?

I am now. Would you go to a super regional and a nationals? Is the winter nationals as we have it now a true nationals? No. Only the people chasing a high point championship will spend the time and money.

      I think location is important.

I would say keep it double points. Why not? Who does it hurt. Change the name if you like but does it help participation if it were east and west. I will not be going west next year but i would go to FL or AL. Fact not fiction.

instead of the winter nationals, you could do like west Midwest and east regional championships, it would be a lot like divisional that we have now

Well since it's a winter national nobody is point chasing, it's usually the first race of the year for some, if not most.

Me personally only go to west coast winternationals (excluding 2010, went to FL to pick up a new boat) because i plan on going to summer nationals later that year. Where ever they are. Havn't missed one in a while because i'm one of the few west guys that will go east/midwest every year. So having a west winternationals will be fun this year since we haven't hosted in awhile.

Not sure what the west participation numbers would be if you had 2. Can't have a winternationals in region10, where most west coast outboarders are.Too much unprediciable weather. Cali could host, but only hard core region10 guys would go down; with a dewindling Cali outboard representation not sure how the entries would turn out for a west winternational...might hurt it more than the limited folks that show up for it now.

This is much what i said in the future thread... We have too many regions.. split the country up in 4 regions... Much like other sports... compete east vs west ... divisional could be more north vs south... and the summer nationals could be the mother of all shootouts...

It needs to be looked at as a Series not just a club race..

This would b much more marketable to promoters...
