When I left the sport they were the hot boats in ASH, 20H and CSH in Region 10. I remember seeing them everywhere. They were light and flighty but were they fast. When I went to Lock Haven a few weeks ago I had expected to see a Furnal due to their distinctive throttle setup but I saw none. Are they still being made or the Leigh Furnal get out of boat building?

Thanks for the information. I remember there were also bigger class boats he made. Bob Sandvig bought a Furnal for his Johnson 45ss engine he raced in Whidbey Island Roostertails open class. The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible.

I always loved the lines of Furnal's. I raced one in 20ssH and CSH from in 87 & 88 when I joined the Army and quit racing. The last run I had in it was in 1993 in Elk River, Idaho. I had a collosion with another boat, actually I went through his boat. I pretty much totaled his boat and tore off the tip of one of my sponsons. My prop was twisted like a pretzel and I broke my collar bone too. I know my father sold my boat but when and to who I am not sure. The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible.

I bought Bobby Sandvig's orange Furnal "Outlaw" in 1987 and ran it for two seasons. The first year it was orange the we put a new deck on it.The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible.

Leigh lives 10 minutes from me. I see him once in a while at the antique meets. Cool guy, been meaning to give him a call. The white #47 boat belonged to Chris, Terry Ingerson, me, back to Terry, and then to a gentleman in Canada.Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most.
