  • Sidewinder 25SSR at Crystal Lake

I had the good fortune of running a new sidewinder 25SSR rig at Crystal Lake this past weekend.

I weigh 210 lbs, about a 15 lb upgrade from my old job.

I scaled in - boat motor and driver soaking wet after a good heat against Jason Thompson 10lbs over weight.

The boat was a Rich Runne design and build, nearly 11 feet long. 20 Cubic inch sidewinder with a set up we played with during the 4 heats we raced. Heats had 1 Mercury, 3 Yamatos and the Sidewinder.

It was a very competitive race, Jason got out front and I could not pass him from behind. I got out front through the 1st turn and Jason did not have enough to pass me.

3/4 mile course three laps the motor started on the first or second pull in the water, idled out and I idled a long way back to the shore after the heat.

Very good top end, we lacked a tick of acceleration to the Yamato, which improved with a slight carb adjustment. (The rusty driver may have contributed to the yamato having a slight edge cornering.)

All in all a very good ride. The lighter boat was very responsive and the longer boat handled the racing water comfortably.

If you like runabouts you have to go for this ride.

That's a great idea, look how much use he got out of the last rig you sold him.

If there are any runabout builders out there that would be interested in building a boat for this class, I've got a 20 Sidewinder to put it on the water. Having complete rigs to sell would be a great way to grow the class. Once sold I'll just buy another motor (any Sidewinder I buy is always for sale) and the builder could reinvest to do it again or just take the money and run.

Stock Outboard is all about a level playing field.

True parity is one motor per class.

It's RACING, not just another boat ride!

I bet the Racecraft factory would churn out some boats for the 20 SW. Would be a great ride.
