By a lot of standards, i'm probably older than most on this board. I have boated my entire life, mostly performance boats, but have always wanted a hydro, or utility. As a kid, i used to watch the racers practice on ponds near my home. I can still recall the sweet sound of those marc 55h mercs. My question is two fold: How would someone my age (61) get into the sport or, if i just wanted a boat for recreational use, what would you recommend. thanks in advance. There's a Sorenson for sale near me. No engine, though.

find a club near you
Whether you want to race or just bomb around the local lake I strongly suggest you get in touch with a club that is near you and they can steer you in the right direction. Where are you located?
Since you have some history with the sport you could also find a club near you and if you do not race you could be part of the club and make some new friends. Most racers would love to have an extra set of hands around to pit crew. The more the merrier.

PS we currently have drivers over 60 and most do very well.Support your local club and local races.

There are plenty of people in your age group actively racing, So do not let that hold you back. I have chased Andy Hanson for several years in ASH and he is 67.
A few questions to start with
1 what part of the country do you live in? - so we know who to point you towards
2 about what size are you?- so we know what class/classes fit
3 new or used equipment?

My son races a Sorenson, B Mod. class. The boat is at least eighteen years old and has won over twenty national championships. The design is flawless and workmanship , will the longevity speaks for it self. This boat has won the B mod high point championship the last two years, with a OMc 22 ci. motor which runs in the low sixties. Go to a race and see what is being run in the size of boat that you are considering buying. Talk to independent racer for their oppion...
