  • Why I love Yamato's

    - Great ride
    - Good speed and acceleration
    - Low maintenance and easy to work on (even a cave man can do it)
    - No cowling like a fishing motor
    - If it overheats, you simply cool it down and go back racing
    - No impeller to break and cook motor
    - Good for drivers from 125 up to 225 lbs.
    - Japanese Quality
    - Very seldom see one blow up
    - They look cool...like a real race motor
    - They are raced Worldwide
    - It’s fairly inexpensive to buy one
    - They are arguably the most dependable engine we have ever raced in outboards
    - Most parts are available at the dealer
    - I like the grease they produce
    - Rewinds are cheap and you can have a 100 of them (this is my favorite)
    - They simply kick a$$!

Does that mean you think they should be in D and A too?

That might just be a poor assumption…I’ll just say that the Senior Allen and I used to have some major disagreements on the Union….

And Kev…if they made one for those classes…yes …

WELL... since you are not asking for a restrictor plate for A I can live with that. LOL

There is alot I like about Yamatos but the number one thing is that they are all about the same.

The difference between a good 302 and an average 302 is about 50 RPM. That is about 1/2 a MPH on the racecourse and the average motor can become a good one with the right blueprinting.

No special parts that come out of the backdoor of the Yamato Factory. No secret production numbers for the good blocks, cases or cranks.

High quality, close tolerance production make the Yamatos my motor of choice.

Stock Outboard is about who is the fastest driver, not who is the best machinist or who has the best hookup with the factory.

But Sidewinder/Hot Rod is still the best ride in Stock Outboard

You cannot be competitive with a Yamato without being or knowing a machinist. That is not the fault of the manufacturer, though. It is the fault of many racing commissions that have slowly added rules that permit this type of machining, even on the 302.

Ed, lets agree to disagree on that one.

I see no difference between my TJ motor, my Goller motor and the motor I have done everything myself. And I am no machinist.

I did my first foot with a 60 grit belt sander. I will put it up against Tom Cronks best work. But not if it is a beauty contest.

I think Ed will refer to the fact that you had to hit the 60 grit paper to the lower unit in the first place. As soon as you sanded the foot it was no longer stock.
