I will say this much if I was a passer by and reading all this which there are many that do just look at any time the amount of guest that are on here, I would never get involved in this hobbie. In ternal problems should be discussed on a private forum not on a public one, just my two cents.

In the age of information back room deals and private meetings to discuss matters of policy and pound out issue positions does not work.

Any passers by that read this and find it too contentious to get involved with suffer from a bad case of "the grass must be greener over here" because every form of motorsport has the exact same types issues we are dealing with on these public forums.

I believe handling important issues and developing policy in a transparent way empowers every member of the organization.

I know there are people that read HR everyday that will not post here. These people need to recognise the power of the discussion and how it will influence the future. They are risking their own irrelevance.

Part of the reason the sport has the problems it does is because of extensive back room deals and quid pro quo political triangulation over the last 30+ years.

Hydroracer is the ultimate Democratization of the sport .

I agree Brad. I still send potential newbies to HR. but with a very stern warning to take what they read with a grain of salt. That this is where we are both venting and sounding out Ideas. and that we all get along much better than it would appear to the uninitiated.

I must say that this is the place for a new person starting out to get info and deals on good equipment. This is how we started and it has helped other folks plenty.

I must say that after I posted a few times I was offended by some of the replys but somebody told me not to take everything said to heart and that is what I have gone by since.

And remember "Some folks are braver in print than they are face to face"

I have been told by these same influential people that they will not post anything here because it never accomplishes anything.

Some have said that HR is just for entertainment puposes only at its best or just a dramafest good for nothing more than name calling and finger pointing at its worst.

The truth is that Hydroracer is the place where ideas are born, leadership is displayed and decisive men and women of action can make a significant impact on this sport.

I have to say that sometimes there are people (and they happen everywhere, we have them on the ambulance service we volunteer for) that just have to always take the opposite point of view. It may not even be their own opinion. Are they being contrary or is it just a way to spark discussion and be sure that all sides of an issue are evaluated?

There are also times when the "ribbing" does get a little heated in the opinion of those of us not directly involved. Sometimes it is an inside joke or discussion between team members or friends that are truly ribbing each other. However to an "outsider" it appears malicious and harrasing. Usually if it is uncalled for someone lets me know and requests assistance to moderate the post(s).

If an individual feels that posts have been made that they absolutely can't live with, are blatantly wrong or slanderous they can always ask to have the posts looked at and evaluated by me and removed if they give a reason to have such a determination made. I have deleted a couple of posts at the request of a user that did indeed seem inappropriate. That being said, I am not about to censor or moderate every post, we are after all adults, even if we sometimes forget to act like one.

Some of the discussions that take place here on HR give a voice to inidivduals who otherwise wouldn't get one. They can't attend annual meetings or commission meetings. I would like to think that the discussions, while lively at times, ultimately help the sport and not hinder it.

Like Mike said, this site is what helped us to get started in the sport with the purchase of a boat and motor(s).

Sometimes something that you say in type takes on a different character than if you would of said it in person. I always try to use a 30 second rule if I am posting to an emotional subject. Type it out, read it, walk away and if after 30 seconds you read it again and still feel that you are correct hit the "post reply" button. We are lucky with HR that you can go back and delete your post at a later date, however if someone has "quoted" it or replied to it your deletion may make things make even less sense.

Keep in mind that we are a family site. We are trying to promote and attract new members to our sport. Above all have fun and keep the wet side down. -- Teresa

Don't think that every "Guest" reading a thread is not a member. Many members read the threads without signing in and appear as "Guest" until they sign in to make a reply. The number of outsiders reading the specific threads is much smaller than it appears.

Using the "Who's Online" feature with the admin function to see the ISP of each guest ... seeing the "guest" sign in and post. I was surprised to see how many people read the forums as guests instead of automatically fully logging in. Its very common.

We watched the guests closely on BRF when Hydroracer was under attack, we were paranoid that BRF might be next and wanted to be able to nip it in the bud. If Who's Online isn't set to discriminate between search bots and real guests, Google, MSN, etc also appear as "Guests" viewing the forums.
