Gear foot fill adapter

I am looking for an adapter that screws into the fill/vent screws on the OMC A/Mercury 15M gear foot. The local marinas are telling me the screw on these lower units use the OMC vent screw, but all the threaded adapters are for the fill screw which is 3/8-16 UNC.

Greg Lyons had one at Lock Haven and I'd really like to get one......any suggestions?

barb fitting

I use a double ended plastic barb fitting that goes in the threaded hole on the gearcase. I think Menard's / Lowes etc has them. the taper on the fitting seals pretty good against the threads with only slight pressure, does not leak. don't have to mess with threading it in or out either. put it on the end of your pump tubing and you are good to go.

I taper my pump line down to a piece of model airplane silicone fuel tubing about six-inches in length. When inserted into the fill hole about 1/2-inch, it forms a perfect, airtight seal for pumping in fresh oil.

I use one of these. The tapered tip seals the fill hole good enough.

Bought it at Harbor Freight Tools... Item # 66350. I also have another one that has a larger volume. I have used this type of Oiler for years.

I use Amsoil Marine Gear Oil.

oil can

a regular pump type oil can from the hardware store works well on the J style case , and the plastic tip of a tube of silicone sealer makes a great adapter for other gear cases.

Yes, it's 1/4-20, I had Lee Tietze make me some adapters years ago, they work great for pressure checking too. They're 1/2" round stock, 1.5" long, 1/4-20 male and 3/8-16 female.
