Tell ME More About 9/11-12/2010 Boat Races...

I just got off the phone with Dave Bryan, who lives half the year in southern California and the other half in eastern Washington. Seems like everytime I talk to him he's been at a boat race.

He told me they almost had him in a C Hydro. Some new class??? Or something he said. Dave has never raced a hydro.

Then, he said they had this Flat Bottom Class for new people where you couldn't pass the "PILOT BOAT" or "Lead Boat" and the lead boat went slower than top speed....But seems everyone passed the pilot boat as they headed to the finish...Sounded fun.

The best thing Dave was telling me about was the J Hydro class. Seems he says they run a C Hydro with a restrictor and a different prop. You mean they don't have to buy a $4,100 Mercury to race J??? I just don't see how that would be possible.

I need to know more about these races, as they seem like the races we used to have where people paid CHEAP ENTRY FEES, PEOPLE had fun and new people could get started without a big hassel...Back before everyone wanted to have NATIONAL POINTS and spend all their money going to the NATIONALS.


Who runs these races? Who sanctions them???

I think your reffering to SLORA's J class. I believe it is a yamato 80 with a restrictor. They are a AOF club. There's also the Whidbey Island Roostertails on the west side WA. $20. Membership, and low entry fees to boot, not to mention the Great potluck dinners...

Mr. Hill, with all due respect, you sound like an idiot! How many times do I have to tell you about this Grassroots club? Or show pictures of our wonderful sites and hard working devoted volunteer-racers? Surely you must sell props to this area! No?

Slow down, step away from the prop grinder and Boat Racing Facts web site, take a breathTell your sweetie to please reduce the noggin swats, they are effecting your memory. Now take notes if you have to, I do!

There were 14 v-driven racers called 'Nostalgia Flats' divided into FOUR classes. One parent was allowed to ride with those Novice teenagers. Pace boat driver is their on site teacher-observer.
Ron, with very poor economy, our class is growing back to its former 16-20 boat count.

Alcohol hydros put on an incredible show, wow! All classes were! So take Daves advise, take the time to show up or be an idiot, choice is yours!

Hells Bells....

By the time I hear about these races they are over. And SoCAL is about 1,200 miles away!


Seems Dave talks about of the fun, I keep thinking he's smoking something. Or he makes things up.


Are there really printed rules or do you make them up at the races?

What are the actual J Hydro rules?

I sell props everywhere and have no idea where they are used or what they are used on.....Hell, if I knew when a race was, I might donate a prop for a raffle!!! Or to be used as a prize!

Paul who??? Pfaff? Except for about ten people everyone who has one of my props has paid, either directly or indirectly.

You have to watch OLD FARTS when it comes to racing, as most of us have never taken a liking to losing and in my case I never had any practice.

When don't I send the CLUB a prop and you guys figure out the best way to hand it...Or I can send a certificate for a CUSTOM prop.

I'm actually pretty easy about these things. But I do need to be reminded.

Ron, our novice class is a one fits all class. Our daughter who is 27 started out in this class last year and yet we also had a kid who is 9 years and 2 weeks old start in the class this year. Nobody has a problem getting on plane and all ages race together. It is a slow class for folks to get experience.

The really nice thing is the younger kids basically key on the older kids till they get the hange of it and we dont waste all day with the 20 different "J", AX, AXXS, AXXXXSSS and all the other goofy classes. All of our classes get to run 3 times a day and we usually get done in plenty of time to have a pot luck and fire side chats before it is dark.

It costs us $60 to run one class for the weekend and $100 for two classes all weekend. Thats 12 times on the water for the weekend and usually we will have morning testing.

And yes we also run the flat bottoms. They are great also and usually raffle off a ride or two after the days racing to the crowd that buys a ticket. Folks enjoy them as much as we do when we win a ride. We would love to have you join us. One of the popular races this year was the return to Montana so see if you can make it. We are working on our race schedule for next year and will post it on the SLORA site around the first of the year.

Ron - I think Dave was talking about our "Raisins To Drive" exhibition class that we ran. It was for folks 40 & over, Y-80 class (or 102/302 with restrictor). The prize for winning points was a customized walker, and after kneeling some of the old folks wished they had done better! There was no entry fee, you just had to be a racing member of AOF and a SLORA club member. We had all kinds racing in it, Dave Weber one of the flatbottom guys even threw his hat in the ring. We had Super E guys, C-Mod and E-Mod guys all in kneelers it was a hoot!

BMX Bicycle Racing...

When Chad was about 7, we did some serious BMX racing. During this time I bought me a cruiser. They had a 30 and over class...I was close to 40 I convinced them we needed a 40 and over which they strated, I didn't race as me and my neck really didn't do well on the jumps.


I'm thinking a Senoir Citizen class AKA known as a "Gentleman's Class" as the later Jimmy Hauenstein called "C" Service Runabout...
When APBA is down for 8,000 to 4,000 it is a breath of fresh air that you guys/gals are having a great time....racing boats. Carry on!!!!

Can you see anyone here that's named Paul? This was at Burley wherea these friends put on a missing man formation in honor of Bill Faulkner Sr. All drove LaveyCrafts, some actually in boats they had raced each other in!!!
