I will be there to shoot pics with my family on Sat & Sun. Is there a "good" spot for the spectators? I doubt seriously if anyone from my past life will be there. It's not that I doubt people I know who still race but those that do are still more than likely on the West coast.

The pits, across from the town are excellent for both spectators and photos. Stop by and introduce yourself. Lyons/Doerle Racing We are usuall pitted at the top of the ramp.

I am looking for something specifically in looking down the start/finish line right down from the first turn. I had planned on making an appearance in the pits too. I am sure a great deal has changed in racing ofer the past 20+ years.

The top of the bridge always makes awesome pics. In the old days you could see coming out of the first turn not sure what it's like now

I have the time and will do a little scouting while the racing is going on. A semi accurate map of where the course generally is located with direction of travel and landmarks would be great to pre plan but not 100% necessary.

Races start running thru the bridge to the clock and turn 1 is before the spillway.

As has been suggested, the bridge gives an awesome view. There is a grandstand and levee directly behind the judge's stand where you can look across the starting line, but there is no line of sight down the course from turn 1. The bridge will give you a long line to the exit of turn 1.

The pit area (other than the hot pit area inside the launch ramp) is open to the public and the bulkhead adjacent to the launch ramp will give you some spectacular shots. A few racers will pass close enough to the bulkhead for you to hear the spray from their roostertails. There is also a spot on the bank near the bridge on the pit side that often has boats dramatically close to the shore where good shots can be taken.

A note: there is an underwater drain exit into the river between the clock and turn one ... many mishaps occur there due to the bump that is caused by water flowing over that pipe. Standing on the levee in that area, waiting patiently ... should give some dramatic shots.

                      Exactle what Sam said.

Also, there is a great overview shot coming down the stretch and into turn one. The perspectives is from about 50 feet up on the flood wall. This place is ripe with good photog spots.

The yellow push pin is at the pits. The launch ramp is at the top of the pin.

Matt: thanks for doing the artwork, I was going to do it later but you beat me to it.

Thanks. That type of art is exactly what I was looking for. So entering from the pits you enter onto the course on the back stretch, correct? I think I saw on the flier that the Driver's meeting was at 9 so I am guessing that racing starts at about 10 and runs until 5 or 6, correct?

Correct, the pits are on the back stretch side of the course. The racing day is usually finished before 5 at Lock Haven.

                                legal gas

The Jaycees get our gas for the judges' boats from Hilty's Convenience Store in Dunnstown, which is ethanol-free...

Will we have any problems finding legal pump gas up there or should we bring some av-gas with us?

                                Thanks Rock,
