joe silvestri, here are some pics of gerald pemberton's laydown csh you were looking for. the boat works really well for someone who weighs 175lbs. great for osy 400. steve french and rick dechau have also tried this boat.

    Matt,
Thanks for the pictures. The boat looks really nice. Very interesting, how you have the throttle mounted on the top deck. You said the boat works well for a 175lb. driver, does it not work well for a heavier driver or lighter driver? Just curious. I've only seen one other laydown CSH boat and it is a Roper. I saw Marc race it at Lock Haven several years ago and now Brent Simmons owns and races it. I was always impressed with how well it handled and yet be competitive. I did always think that a lighter boat would be the trick to making a laydown CSH work better because of the lack of power and I know your boats are very light but strong. Keep up the innovation. Thanks again for the pics.

the boat was an experiment. it works really well for a 175lb driver (myself) but a little bit flat out of the turns with a heavier driver. we have not done much testing with the boat, perhaps a little setup change might wake the boat up for the heavier drivers. also, it might be a tad small for a driver over 6'.

Bill Giles builds a laydown CSH/OSY as well. It is run by Diane Murry of New York.

          Matt,
Since you have my rig, look it over and see if it would be possible to make this into a "convertable" laydown/kneeldown rig.

Install windshield (would like this anyway).

          V-cut current dash
Install laydown dash behind current dash with matching v-cut so steering pully could be used either way with aluminum plates to hold pulley V cut-out in place. I think I would like laydown dash in that area anyway. I kept trying to get a little further back in Geralds rig coming out of corners.
v-cut in kneel-down dash will let you see when using laydown set-up.
I have several different steering wheels if the one in rig now is too big for laydown set-up
Install extra side pullies (if needed) for laydown set-up.

Install deck mount throttle with several filler pieces so I can move throttle back/forward positions till I figure out were most comfortable. (Will leave this in when using kneeldown throttle set-up---->if there is still room for kneeldown throttle.)

          Make removable chest ramp.

          What do ya think-----A?

Will give ya a call in a couple days to talk it over.

hey Joe, don't forget that the CSH I raced against you last year and the Nationals in Copperopolis was a Darneille laydown, to which Dan had bought from me. It was actually designed as a 20SSH laydown, but for a much shorter and lighter person that I am, and it worked great for him. I was just too tall (long) and heavy for it, at the time. That boat (actually all Darneille's) handles awesome, turned awesome and would take rough water with ease!!!! Don't cha remember me sneakin in on ya in the second turn with it............but, just did not have the speed to pass ya......

you have the right idea though for a laydown......light, but also having the lift built at the right spot in the boat, as laydowns aren't usually built with alot of lift......

              Daren,
I remember your laydown. Everytime I got to the second turn and thought I had you behind me, there you were. I kept thinking, Daren just won't go away. That was a fun race. Your Darnelle seemed like it handled well. Did you like laying down?

For the boat builders reading this thread, is it feasable to take a kneeldown boat and make a laydown out of it. I thought about doing this to my Z-Craft if it doesn't sell. What changes would be recommended?

                Try it

Try it, no big deal to convert to test. If the boat likes it go for it. But usually a laydown has the bottom break a little farther back to accommodate the dead weight. Marc Johnson answered my question to this earlier this year, thanks Marc.

hey Joe, prior to that race, I had been having a few problems with the boat (especially since my feet were **** near riding on the motor), but I built a 4" setback for the motor and it worked great. I just had no time to test it prior to that race. I was trying my ****est to get around you though! I actually really do like laying down, as it makes you feel a little safer, less bouncing around in the cockpit, etc. Me and Larry were "this close" to havig him build my new current CSH a laydown, but were thinking that my 180lb 6'2" body makes it a little harder to build a competitive C, so he went the conventional kneeler style. BUT, all my future boats (DMH in the works) bigger than a C, will be all laydowns.........

PS: I have a Z-Craft DMH here that Frank originally built as a laydown for Donnie Morris, but was converted back to a kneeler. I have yet to actually do anything with the boat though. Seems to me that it would be easier to convert a laydown to a kneeler, versus the other way, BUT, who am I to say, I AM NOT a builder, just a dumb test pilot.......

here was the Darneille as I bought it from Don Nyberg, who ran it as a 20SSH laydwon......very successfully I might add.......

its nice to have a wider cockpit, say 17 inches. helps to get the shoulders in. i like to have the throttle inside, keeps arm and hand out of harms way, my kneelers were hat way also.

Is it necessary to have an offset cockpit if its a laydown?

                              Matt,
Final on windshield. Make it like the one on gerald's laydown. That leaves me room to get flames back on. To bad your grafics guy is not up to speed. the flames on Charlie's rig are awsum!
Send/post some pic's when you get shield and pickle's reworked.
Let me know if flames become avail and cost.
