    Usts hot

The USTS has been blessed this year with great weather, which is a welcome change from the last two years. (At Winona last year, I was the Referee and got knocked out when a fast storm blew the canopy off the judgtes stand while hitting my head)!-One way to get back at the Ref!

Also, the boat count is right up there where it should be.
However, the USTS is a completely different animal than most of the other scheduled races.
We know by January at the latest what our scheduled races will be. We know by November what the daily class schedule will be, and that does not change except for the nationals.
We have 6 quality races paying money. So Families are taking only 3 mini vacations (Testing Friday at each race, then a set schedule for Sat and Sun). We are finished early, so most of our racers can be home for work on Monday. Then we have one big SPEED WEEK where a family takes one long vacation with Constantine and the Nationals in DePue. Family activities are always available during that week.
If we wnat to race more, we can hit the local races, World Championships, Record Runs, etc.
Then at the end of the year, there is even more pay back. A lot of planning and effort go into this well oiled machine. I love it.

It seems as though in Region 6 that our SO, MO & J races over the past 2-3 years, that this seems to be the new trend for entries:

      70 - good
      80 - very good
      90 - great

      120+ - big races like Constantine/Grass Lake.

The economy. Also, at least on the east coast, we seem to have a lot of races in the spring and fall, and not so many during the summer, these days. The three closest races to me do not allow J's, and it's hard to get kids back in school after an 8 hour trip home the night before.

Same issue for us in region 10, with 2 races canceled that leaves us 2 races(maybe 3 if we get Eatonville back, not including Nationals) that fall during summer break for the kids, sad...

TRORA's first ever race in Delaware in mid May had 69 entries.

Memorial Day race in Franklin had 73. Down about 15% from last year.

In 2008, we had 125 boats there.

              Quite a drop off.

we had about 140 or 160 boat count at our first race this year in region one in Standish Maine. Some people traveled from as far as Fl and Ontario CA. Past years have had people from Ohio. I guess so far so good up here.

Region 10 has been doing alright this year.

Lowest boat cout so far was 70 at Mayfield. Kitsap and Newberg pulled between 80-100.

I'm not sure on Silver lake this past weekend, but 7 DSH were there (the most all year). Not to mention Spring Lake Lawerence had 6 outboard classes running with inboards. All classes over 6 boats.

Outboard Races left in Region 10:
                        Seaside, OR
                        Eatonville, WA (tenitive)
                        Rockaway, OR
                        Moses lake, WA
                        Yelm, WA
                        Kilos, Oregon

There will be a little break in july and august. July we usually have 2 races. But with Eatonville being pushed back (we should know for sure soon if it will happen in August) and Capital lake closed for EPA reasons july will be a no go for region 10 outboards.

But with nationals and divisionals in NorCal (12 hour drive from Seattle) this summer there is plenty of racing opportunities in the NW and North Cal.

I would love to come but it would be nice to know for sure. It would be more fun if we get the boat to going next weekend. I won't come if we still don't have any speed.
