Well friday had racers showing up at 10:00 a.m. to get the best spots in the pits. A steady stream has been coming all day. Short course and marathoners.Terry Kerr and T.J. worked on their engines preparing them to do battle on Sat.. Mike Afholter and the "Team Casual" race team are on site with some great looking rigs and Jake Alkama is sporting his new rigs to give Wil Afholter a run in ASR and A marathon. Kim Parks from Canada is on hand to run his very fast C Marathon rig but is fighting some back pain. Can he still show the boyz how it's done? Time will tell.
Rain held off all day just staying to the north. Forcast for Sat. is still looking good. Racers were heading to the "Barking Frog" for cold ones and some grub around 7:00 p.m. tonight. Here are a few shots from "The Frog".

I wish I had some results to post but I was so busy through out the day I did not get down to the judges stand. I will try and get some on Sunday or maybe someone else can chime in. I do know that AH had all but two gun jumpers in the first heat allowing two newcomers to take first and second. The sidewinder in AH looked fast but didn't win either heat. Looked very good however and I think the OMC days are numbered. Overall many of the classes had upstes do to false starts. The marathon went without any incidents. Weather held all day with light winds and overcast. No rain of any concern came down till around 7:00 p.m.. By that time everyone was having a great catered meal and headed to "THE FROG". Rain predicted all night clearing by early morning with sun predicted in the afternoon.

          Wild Night

Rough night of weather, tornado warnings and watches throughout the night
Yes we were awoke at 11:30 p.m. by tornado sirens going of in the town of Galesburg. (4 miles west of Augusta). A reporded funnel cloud that did not make it to the ground was spoted. Recieved calls at our house from racers saying the DNR came thru the race sites camp ground and made people go to the bathrooms for shelter. Standing room only elbow to elbow I heard. It looks like we dodged the bullet but for about an hour there it was touch and go.All is clear now and the radar looks like things are past us know with a good day of racing ahead. Going to the pits to asses damages from the wind. Will report back when possible.

                Tornado was Real

I live a little less than 15 minutes from the race site. Our neighborhood took a big hit. Tore the roof off the church, and many over a century old oak trees fell victim. A lot of trees were topped, and many fell over. Lots of damage to trees, some houses, I think we got real luck in the area. The bad wind hit the only open field around, the park with soccer fields. Lots of trees there down, and that is within site of my house.

At any rate, the storm was bad Saturday night, I heard the sirens and hit the basement thinking ya right, just another caution. Looked outside the window when i came back up and knew it was real. We suffred no major damage, just some limbs down, but my favorite Maple tree fell over in the neighbors yard.

You guys got lucky in Fort Custer. The roational wind went right over you according to the map on CBS I was watching. Then it came down on us.

Anyone know how TJ and those from the Dundee area are ? Apparently that town took a major hit, even Cabelas is closed with damage.

Once again thanks to all the MHRA members for a great weekend at Augusta. Mark Miskerik did a great job keeping things humming in the judges tent along with all his helpers. If you haven't been here before you need to put it on you calender for 2011, it's a great venue.

It was a wonderful, although cloudy start to MHRA's innaugural 2010 Summer Shootout Series!

We were visited by a few out of towners which all of MHRA would like to thank:
                            The Oberlin Family from Georgia
The Simmons from Jersey (Thanks for all the help on Saturday Billy!)
Our friends from North of the Border
                            The Miller's from Oklahoma
Chuck Zolkoske and the Scheffler Family from the Badger State
and even Bill Pavlick's smart *ss comments were welcome! (but seriously, thanks for the help Bill).

The best race of the weekend was the return of Marathon racing in 2010 with an amazing race in CSR between Josh and Dustin Pearson. Josh won out by inches at the finish (running CSR on his D boat may have helped just a touch here).

The Sidewinders were represented well in the A Hydro and B Runabout classes this weekend by the Wellings and Hearn Team. Richard Hearn ran the B Sidewinder in BSR for some solid racing.
Ryan ran the A Sidewinder and man, that thing can fly! He even proved that it will return to life after a solid dunking in ASH on Sunday - he was out drying out the motor less than an hour later.

The kids showed some great potential this weekend with solid showings from Grant Hearn, Jace Scheffler, Peter Lauer, Ryan Wellings, the Sweeney Boys, and Nick Foster (I am probably forgetting many, so don't get too upset with me Mom's and Dad's!).

Even after losing two MHRA EZ Ups from Saturday's storms, Mark Miskerik, Adam Allen, Tom Low and Dean Sutherland all put on one hell of a show. Thanks also go out to T.J. and Terry Kerr for inspecting and course setup, the Duffields, and Shannon Hoover & Vicki Sidor for their tremendous scoring abilities with limited help.

For all of you who missed this event, you're missing out on a wonderful event in a beautiful state park and terrific community who loves us boat racers. If you haven't been, you truly are missing a gem of a race.
