• What if a Stock Tohatsu wins 850 High-Points?

Thinking and hypothesizing out loud…<o></o>
<o></o>
Stock Tohatsu’s are not allowed in 750.<o></o>
Stock Tohatsu’s are allowed in 850.<o></o>
<o></o>
What would happen if a Region 10 stock Tohatsu won high-points in 850?<o></o>
<o></o>
It might not be out of the question:<o></o>
• A stock motor is typically more reliable than a modified motor.<o></o>
• Region 10 will have 17 opportunities to race 850.<o></o>
• At each of the 17 opportunities, DSH has or will be run.<o></o>
• Traditionally, DSH steps up to 750 for more water/test time.<o></o>
• Since a stock Tohatsu is not allowed in 750, everyone who raced 750 last year is stepping up to 850 out of courtesy.<o></o>
• Mod Divisionals and Mod Nationals are in California this year and plan to be attended by Region 10 stock Tohatsu’s.<o></o>
<o></o>
Proposed Question:<o></o>
What would the response be of the MOD commission if a stock Tohatsu did win High-Points?<o></o>
<o></o>
Second Proposed Question:<o></o>
What would the response be of the MOD commission is a stock Mercury did win High-Points?<o></o>
<o></o>
2009 precedent did show that Region 10’s 750 High-Point champion utilized a Mercury and did post all 400 point wins.<o></o>

A stock Tohatsu will win high points, without ever beating a 50 year old fishing motor, with a 50 year old driver, and a boat number 50-R.

If I remember correctly a 45 OMC won 1100cch high points in Region 10 about 15-20 years ago. Obviously before capsules

Mike:

Actually it was Sam H. that did win 1100 hydro high points, driving a 45. If I remember correctly, the 60% sponson rule came into play the next year.

Proposed Question:
What would the response be of the MOD commission if a stock Tohatsu did win High-Points?
Easy, if the mod commission does not like it, the mod commission will make a rule against it. Ironically, if they do, they will end up with fewer members, fewer races, and less revenue both at the club level and nationally.

Decisons made by commissioners to serve the few are part of what is broken about Stock and Modified racing.

But nothing will change until its really really really broken. Right now its just a little bit broken.

Make It Happen

Do it. It should not be to hard given the amount of true 850CCMH's in the class. When I say true, I mean no Merc 44's as well. True 49.9CI engines.

Just remember, Mod has a different number of races that count towards high point than stock does. In addition, the NAC's and Divisionals in each region are extra point races, so, John P will most likley win the NAC's and Divisionals in his region.

You guys will have to post a perfect record with one Tahotsu to beat it. And do it before he does. Not saying John can accomplish it, but the chances look good, and with him driving for some decent equipment owners, you know he will be fast both in speed and around the course.

It is racing, I for one would not care if a Tahotsu won high points, it is a legal engine in the class, why would that bother the commision ? I don't see how it would.

In NBRA the Hotsu did win the 850 high point and won more than its share of heats also. Reliability counts more than we realize .

Who's making a buck in stock outboard? i certainly am not being a stock commisioner....Pretty sure all the commisioners and people who goto the APBA meetings every year are not being paid to do so. And sped they're own money to get there. Motor makers are losing money on this sport (i.e. sidewinder/tahatsu). Race chairman's putting on stock events are not getting a cut. Pretty sure we're still a non-profit org. So where and who is making a buck? And did i even understand your post?

Also my guess is if John P comes to Nats and does Div. He'll win 850cc. That guy is fast. But if region 10 guys run a lot of races...it's a possibility.

the proof is in the works. the tohatsu mod decision has just about eliminated the 750 class this year in region 10. as guedo said "out of courtesy, everyone steps up to 850". i think it's actually somewhere between a little and really really really broken. oh yeah... and mod commission will blame it all on daren.....
