What Happened.
Ahhhh! I just figured it out. Back in the day, when men were men, we would roll the runabouts up in the corner. Now it like driving one of those hulls with training wheels, I mean hydros. Just sit and turn the wheel.
The pressure on the side fin exceeded the modulus of elasticity for plywood and spruce and BOOM! I tore off the left side which leads to the rest coming apart due to hydraulics.
Roll 'er up next time.Last edited by Redneckerson; 05-17-2010, 01:42 PM."A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state,

I agree sorta
From the pictures I saw of the crash you can see the chine with skidfin attached got torn off the boat. As to the bit about modulus of elasticity, I doubt it very much. There are a lot of side fin CSR's running a lot of laps without pulling the wood apart. I'd also bet that a roller up boat will come apart like this if the joints fail. My analysis of the parts returned showed multiple joint failures and a fair bit of rot in the boat. I think KB may be on to something.

Other kitsap carnage
There was quite of bit of carnage in CSH on saturday with, I believe, 4 boats being wrecked/ beached for the weekend. In my case, I got cut off going into turn 1, rode up the roostertail, came down dead, and got t-boned by another boat that couldn't react by the time the roostertails settled. Here are 2 pictures, the sponson of the other boat is what went across, and through the aluminum cored composite cockpit sides. I think a combination of the boat, and other driver did the rest of the deck damage.
Very lucky no one was hurt.

Another perspective
Another view of the damage. A couple notes, the throttle is somewhere at the bottom of Kitsap Lake, and Glenn's Rolex watch was recovered from inside the deck of Mikes boat, even AFTER the boat had been rolled over twice!

Huh weird....
And some folks got mad when the Stock committee ruled on pickle fork size....That is damage with rounded pickles.
My personal theory on the CSR exploding boat is this: Florida racers possibly storing boats outside in very nice, warm climate. When florida rains it rains hard. The boat stored outside gets rain water in it every so often. The owner then goes out to drain it later after the rain storms. Possible large amounts of water left in boat. The water seeps into the boat even after the drain. Now with the warm racing water in the lakes the boat notices no real difference from rain water. All warm and not very harmful to the wood. Possible rot in the wood though. Now stay with me.....a NW owner buys this boat, brings the boat to colder climates. Colder racing water, colder storing places, and makes the damaged rain soaked wood/epoxy brittle. The boat continues to race in colder weather when the boat gets raced in hard conditions (notice Drivers JMK and Kyle Bahl, boats driven hard. The boat finally cannot stay together and dissmantles in racing conditions 55-65 mph. No real fault but the perfect conditions to make a boat break apart.Last edited by Racerkyle20; 05-17-2010, 10:00 PM.Kyle Bahl

Gosh..I dont know...maybe dic cheney can tell me? Or maybe all the fat cats from Washington Mutual and Wall Street that are sitting in their nice Palm Beach Mansions laughing at all of us working folks? Hmmmm? No thanx to the former regime..I am essentially ruined money wise...yet I am still going to race D stock hydro. Wow..there is a money maker!

Congress has been contolled by Democrats since 2006
I'd like to hear more about Lake Kitsap.
Let's get back to racing.
So, what do you think about the Florida/Washington Conspiracy?

Glad
Glad nobody was hurt in that wreck. Looks like it is just pure luck noone did. I don't think rounded pickles or sharp pickles would have made a difference.
Maybe we should outlaw cut out left sides to prevent a pickle from entering ? I am kidding here..
Point being, you can mandate all you want for saftey, 90% of the accident being injury free is luck.Dave Mason

A boat falling apart in the middle of a race is what turned Ed Karelsen into a boat builder. As I recall the story, in the late Fifties Ed and brother Dave bought a brand new D Stock hydro from Joe Swift in Florida. In his first or second race, Ed came slamming into a turn and the bottom fell out of the boat. Ed had recently gotten a degree in Naval Archetecture from the U of Wash. (again, this is an old story filtered through an old man's fuzzy memory and subject to correction by anyone who knows better), and decided he could build a better boat himself . . . which he certainly proved over the years!

Off post excuse please
100k is alot to loose but put in perspective it depends on the total value of your investments and how the percent down compares to benchmarks you establish.
Did you ever consider that the allocation (stocks, bonds, cash) of your investments might have been to agressive and your risk tolerance was not properly evaluated? Is blame on others appropriate? If you think Bush was bad wait till the BHO and his Congress plan really kicks in and their out of control spending really peaks. Hold on to your wallet taxes and costs to live for all are going upupupupup!Last edited by ZUL8TR; 05-29-2010, 04:24 AM."Keep Move'n" life is catching up!
