Been on the APBA site looking for information on safty spic on building a new boat. Wondering about cockpit material. I think there is a change. If there is does it apply if a boat is just repair. If there is a new rule how much of the old boat is needed to be call a repair and not a new hull. Look like the saw dust is getting ready to fly. Any information would helpful dennis spud

Dennis, I do not have anything to do with making the rules. But I will tell you to go to the APBA website, or just a printed rulebook. There's a section in the stock safety rules that has a [I]suggested[I] cockpit side layup for stock boats. As far as doing a repair, you should be fine. The only stock rule being enforced on old boats is the sponson tip rule. I am not as familiar with the mod rules.

Go to the UIM web site and look at their rules for cockpit sides and sponson tips. This is for both new boats and retrofits. It describes cockpit side layup with plywood and kevlar, required cockpit height above the floor board, etc.

286 thru 289. Dimensions in millimeters..... kevlar in metric. But 5 ounce per square yard Kevlar is it. 1 mm equals .03937 inch or rounded off (.04 inch).
They show dimensions for both lay down and kneeler hydros.
